Just bought 3 new scoots. (2) roketa mc54 250b's (Yamaha clones). Also bought a new Qlink pegasus for the boy. Qlink was from a dealer in Manchester NH. I knew I wanted 250's for my wife & myself. We are both heavy (230) and was afraid a 150 would not be enough or we'd get bored too quickly.
Bought the Roketa's from John at Valley Scooters. Was very nervous about internet sale. I wanted to see touch & feel the bikes. His reputation here helped but still couldn't bring myself to purchase sight unseen. I asked him about shipping damaged bikes, either screened by him or refused by a customer. Yes! He had a few. I drove to the warehouse outside New Haven Ct. and viewed the bikes. Bought them!! He does run a very professional operation and is in it for the long haul. Next time I wouldn't hesitate to do an online purchase from him, and I now have the added benefit of actually having met him rather than dealing with just a voice on the phone.
Assembled/prepped this past weekend. I will echo what others have said. You MUST be mechanically inclined and experienced to deal with potential problems. It is not for the faint of heart. Maybe you would be lucky, but when a problem in prepping arises a solid knowledge base makes the difference between success or frustration. One bike was no problem during prep, but the other had small issues. Would not start. No fuel. Traced to pinched fuel/vacuum line under seat / side panel. (learned about that here,,,and it saved me!!.) Same bike had coolant leak at drain bolt on water pump. Lost all coolant during shipping. Was an absolute BEAR to get filled as would only accept small doses of coolant before becoming air locked in fill tube. (Suspect there must be some hose or bleed screw to be removed for easier filling?),
Bikes running well. Definate difference between a 150 & 250! Seems like night and day. Glad I made the choice I did. I will tell you that I may regret the 250 when serious repairs are needed as removing the plastic body/cladding looks like it is quite a job. There is not much you can access thru the few small access doors and spaces where you can manage to fit a hand into. I will keep you all posted on our progress.
