Hi all, I am new, or hope to be new to scooters soon, I have a chance to buy a 2003 Aprilia Atlantic 500 with 5100 miles for $2890 from a local dealer. I am a big guy so I should be able to really cruise at highway speeds (75 here in Idaho) even riding 2 up with my wife (as soon as I take a safety course).
Does this seem like a good buy, I don't know much about the Aprilia's?

GREAT BUY!,but do your home work!.aprilla had some trouble with their support some time ago.IE parts, warranty's etc. it may be resolved I'm not sure. I've looked at the 500 two years ago and love it.but a son in college brought me back in reality!.any warranty's?.i would ask for one.if not it's still a good buy.the Honda helix is about the same for a 03.hopefully this will help!.good luck and let us know.also find out if it's been taking care of and not in a finder binder,oil changes etc.if you can.

Seems like a really nice price if it is in good shape. I'd just talk to the dealer there about his willingness to support it. If you can get a warranty that would be great, but even without one it would be tempting. That thing is high end of the scooter world in both brand and size. It will run 75-80 out on the highway up in Idaho with a big guy and a passenger as you plan. Just realize that it will not be like in a car. It won't really be "cruising", you will have to work it pretty hard. Especially on hills. Given any thought to a second scoot for your wife so you have a riding partner?  |

If you can establish that there's a parts conduit that can function in a timely manner, it's a great deal! I just paid $2750 for a 2001 Helix with 3 times the miles on it(no warranty) in Indiana, where there is a dearth of used scooters. Considering it was the only used scooter of it's size within 100 miles of here(in addition to being the model I was really wanting) I felt like I got a good deal. So by comparison that deal sounds super!
