I read a little bit about making spare keys in the general forum but couldn't find a definite answer for the 250cc scoot. I have the CFMOTO engine type and the scoot looks pretty much exactly like the Tank 250 (although it's not a tank).
Anyway, does anyone know what blank key would work to make a spare?! I read the x121 should work on some scoots but what works for our 250 scoots? Both Osh and Ace hardware have no idea; that last one actually wanted to send me to walmart. Yeah, right, I'm sure they'll be able to do it. So, if I at least know the blank that works, I can call around to see if they have it...
Thanks so much!!

They should let you go outside with a blank to see if it fits, it is just part of good customer service. There isn't any reason why a 250 would use a different lock, and engine type doesn't matter. When the last old fashion hardware store finally closes, we are in trouble!

walmart only does car and truck, no motorcycle or scooter keys. the other places pretty much the same as well, I had to go to a locksmith(recomended by the dealer) to get my keys cut for the Majesty and it's trunk. Found out the trunk keys are a one time deal and the smith had to find a key that would work, then he had to make a shim to make the trunk key stay in the machine. He got the cut right the first time for the trunk key, so now I have spares for the scoot and the trunk. Local Locksmiths are your best bet for spare on a scoot.

Many folks have had trouble finding the proper blanks for our Chinese scooters. Nothing for the usual American, Korean or Japanese vehicles seem to have the right fit. As Swampsniper said, a professional locksmith is the best place to go but even that does not guarantee success. My local locksmith could never match a blank for my 150 or 250 scoots. Importers don't seem to specify blanks when placing orders with the manufacturers. This has been a known issue long enough that action should have been taken by now.

Is there anyone that did get a spare and what blank worked for you?
I will try to find a local locksmith...

Since your scoot is foreign, the locksmith will have to match the thickness, the grooves, if any that run through the middle of the key, if it's one side or two sided. Some motorcycle keys may fit your scoot key. Figure on the keys costing about $3 per key, but keep in mind that's a lot cheaper having it towed home. Just have to go check out the locksmith.
