For those who have read some of my other threads you know I started with a Bali 250, and after many problems bought the kymco. I just took the scoot from Michigan to southern Kentucky for a funeral. I think I spent about 30 dollars on fuel costs.!!! The scoot performed awesume and my only complaint was the seat. My ass felt like it had been pummeled by the Gay Parade! Anyone have any solutions???

I am not sure if there are any aftermarket seats from corbin, although I hear cobin seats are not as well made as they were. You could use a riding pad, gel foam or liquid filled, or cut the center of the seat out and insert a gel fork or liquid fill form into it and recover.

ROTFLMAO! What a way to put that. Check eBay, I just bought an Airhawk medium pad 14x14 for about $129 plush shipping (new) . It fixed the butt pain problem. It is nice to have enjoyed a pain free ride for a change. Here is a link: tinyurl.com/2584h2. The seller had really fast shipping, and good on emails. Gel and memory foams didn't help me, but then again I am a pretty large guy. If you have a shop that does it professionally they might even use a marine grade foam (have not tried that yet). I wish there was someone who could remodel these seats specifically for this scooter. Corbins look great, I am not sure about quality though. I have heard they are having legal issues too. Tom

I had also heard the quality of Corbin has been deteriorating and were become poorer than the OEM seats. That has to be quite a quality loss.

look4wisdom, where do you live? Maybe there is a Airhawk dealer in your area so you can test out the pad. If not ROHO (who makes the Airhawks) also makes the same thing for wheelchairs. The only difference is the ROHO pads have smaller, but more air pockets. Tom

I use an airhawk on my Kymco GV 250. I would not ride very far without it. It is rather expensive but well worth it. Mike

if you have a MyComfort store in your area you can try the same gell out in normal seat pads. The also normally give some of this same gell away (single layer though) if you print their coupon from the website and visit their store. mycomfortmyway.comBTW, my wife has one of those dual layer gels pads on her powered wheelchair, and I find myself using it if I am in need of a chair pad from sitting too long. It is really comfortable, and I have seen her sit in that chair for a good 8 hours straight without feeling any major back pain due to the transference of bumps. Tom

I just read the review article on the Xciting 500 in the August 07 issue of Rider and the reviewer wasn't really overly thrilled with the scooter. He had some very nice things to say, but also several dislikes. They also said the mpg was about 45, which I didn't find to be too good for a scooter, but they didn't give many details on miles or conditions either. Hopefully Kymco will work out some of the complaints they had on the second scooter they tested. The first one had problems and was returned to the distributor twice before being replaced. Nice scooter, but I don't consider it a good value when compared to the Burgman or the Majesty for the same money. Stan

Hey Stan, I have nearly a 1000 miles on my xciting 500 and I havent had any problems as yet. Knock on wood. I have been consistently getting 58 MPG. Im guessing they must have been riding the test models really hard. My only complaint so far is the hardness of the seat. But Im looking into some different solutions. I would love to have a fuel injected xciting. I wish they had already been available when I bought this one. Happy Scooting...

Boy am I glad to hear that! Thirty five mpg was lower than any big twin Harley I have owned. Even my old Indians would beat that. I hope it keeps rolling like it is for you. My Majesty is injected and virtually a flawless fuel system. I'd shy away from the first year injected Kymco though. Cycle World just did a mini review on the Xciting and it sounded pretty negative to me. They said it "takes some time to warm up, coughing, spitting and stalling for the 1st mile or two." "its not as quick off the line as its 500cc engine might suggest" The dagger was "the gauge reads empty well before 90 miles even under steady state cruising conditions. That puts fuel economy in the 30 mpg range." I feel like KYMCO is getting the short end of the stick on this review as most owners on the forums seem happy with their rides.

I'm not a big supporter of Kymco simply because I think they are over priced, however, Cycle World is pretty notorious for this on anything but sport bikes, so I'd take their reviews with a big grain of salt on anything that isn't a Sport Tourer or crotch rocket. This is why I only commented on the Rider article. I think they are much more open to different styles and tend to be much less biased in their opinions. If you want a non Japanese or Chinese scooter, Kymco is probably the best you can currently get. Every scooter or motorcycle has limitations and things some riders won't like. But, for the price of an Xciting 500, the Majesty and Burgman 400's are a much better value. That said, if you like the X500 better, go for it! It's still a fine scooter.
