I have owned my MC-54 for 3 weeks now and want to thank Stan for the link I found about how to use my alarm on my scooter, but I do have a question about the alarm. What is the blank pop out key for?
Also, On the scooter, where you start the scooter with the key, can someone tell me what all the positions are for. I know I turn the key all the way to the right to the half circle position to start, but Iam not really sure what the other positions are for??
Also, being my first scooter, is it better to kill the engine with the kill switch or turn the key off, or does it really matter?
Thank you

Lubejob66; Compare the blank with one of your keys. You may be able to get the blank cut and use it as a key.
Don't know about your ignition switch positions as I only have three on mine: Center= off Clockwise = run position Counter clockwise, with steering turned to left, = steering lock
Some body styles have a position for releasing the seat latch.
I never use the kill switch. Did so on my first scoot, forgetting to turn off the key and killed the battery because the gauge(s) stays on. Also forgot once or twice that the kill switch was thrown and the scoot wouldn't start, caused short-lived panic until I discovered my error. Has happened of many folks!

Scooterollie has it right. On my MC 54 one key position is off, one is on and the other is a steering lock with the handle bars turned to the left. As far as the kill switch is concerned, the motorcycle school I attended said to use it to stop the engine. I never do because of the same reasons as scooterollie. When I used to work for a living, some of the guys I rode with would use your kill switch when you were'nt looking just to see the panic look on your face. It seemed funny then.

I found a locksmith that cut the remote key to match my scoot key and it works but not well. I have to jiggle it to make it turn. The key blank does not fit the key machines well and therefore do not copy well. If you can an old style locksmith that can file it my hand may be the bette way to go but I have not found one yet.
I always thought the kill switch was more for emergency use in case of stuck throttle, etc. I don't think it really makes a difference but I have created the same issues both the other guys described by misuse or an old mind that forgot to turn it back on.
And last, my key only has the "Lock", "Off" and "On" positions.

Monty is right about the key blanks on the alarm fobs - they are not an exact match. Like his, mine work but not perfectly, a little "sloppy". There is a small phillips head screw on my switchblade that I removed so the blank can be inserted in the key cutter. My "Old Tyme" local locksmith doesn't charge for cutting a blank if you bring the blank with you. He did both key fob blanks free! How is that for good customer relations!
