I only have 30 miles on my BMS 250 (Teamguyz) scooter and suddenly have a loss of power. There is no stuttering, just no power. It has slow acceleration and max speed is now 45 mph. I checked the lines and everything seems to be in order. I NEED HELP, PLEASE !!!

Ok, I'll start. First off, bummer that things aren't working right for you. Now let's see if we can gather some additional info to help troubleshoot this thing.
Have you talked to the dealer you bought it from? They may have the easiest answers. Failing that, have you inspected the air inlet/filter/tube system for kinks or collapsed areas? What does the spark plug tip look like? Black with soot or tan or white? Look to see that the connections to the carb are all tight including where the intake manifold bolts to the cylinder head.
Does it seem to rev up ok when its on the centerstand but not when you are trying to ride? The brakes aren't dragging are they? Tires inflated properly?
Have you looked to ensure that twisting the throttle is in fact opening the carburetor butterfly fully?
Check all those things then get back to us. We'll see where to go from what you figure out.

Welcome to the pound tbglfn. Some one here will probably have an answer for you. Here's my meager attempt. Had a similar problem with a vehicle once. Just didn't have any power. Would start and run. Rev the engine and sounded good. Tried to go and there was no power. Turned out to be fuel filter. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Terry. I'm going to tackle the scooter today, so hopefully i'll have good news tomorrow.

No good news. Still no power...top speed 45mph.
Here's what I did: 1) replaced all fuel lines and clamps
2) installed new fuel filter
3) bypassed vacuum fuel pump and intstalled a manual fuel shut-off valve
4) checked manifold and everything is tight
5) brakes don't seem to be dragging
Now what?

A couple of thoughts, perhaps someone better informed than I am can expand:
- assuming it's a constant velocity carb, could there be something preventing the plunger from rising beyond a certain point? - what about something blocking the air intake?

Have you checked the valve clearance? Is your belt stretched? Other than no power, how does it run? Did you check the manifold for cracks? Does it ping or miss at any point? Does the engine "bog" or slow down at high throttle settings? And finally, there have been a few cases where the diaphragm in the CV slider has cracked or otherwise has a hole in it, which does not allow the carb to fully open up (just like a vacuum leak will). Stan No good news. Still no power...top speed 45mph. Here's what I did: 1) replaced all fuel lines and clamps 2) installed new fuel filter 3) bypassed vacuum fuel pump and intstalled a manual fuel shut-off valve 4) checked manifold and everything is tight 5) brakes don't seem to be dragging Now what?

I had a certified mechanic look at it and here's what was wrong:
1) Valves needed adjusted 2) He installed a smaller jet
Runs great now.

I'm not buying the smaller jet idea. I know you say it runs fine now, but I have yet to see a scooter that the factory put too big a jet in them. They are always after the EPA and emissions cert., so that just doesn't make sense. Something is restricting the air and threw the balance off, so a smaller jet would help, but it's only a band-aid, not a cure. JMHO. Don't forget tbglfn may be at altitude. If so it is easy to run rich with stock jets and 30 miles would be a good time to get an accurate mixture reading from the plug. Sudden drop in power was from loose valve adjustment but mech was right to set mixture to local conditions
Just don't want you to think the mech did anything unnecessary tbglfn. Sounds like good mech to me.

UPDATE: The valve adjustment and the smaller jet didn't fix the problem. After more diagnostics the carburater was bad. Called dealer they sent a new one and had it installed, runs great now.

Tbglfn; Glad you got the problem solved and updated your post. Did you see a name on the old and new carbs?

scooterollie: I didn't see the name on the old or new carb, sorry MLN: The mechanic talked to the dealer and the dealer said the carb was bad, i'm not sure what was wrong with it. I can say that after going through this whole process that I wish I would have never bought the thing
