I'm searching for a back-up to my scooter battery until I get my charging problem fixed. What about one of those plain old 12V rectangular lantern batteries? Rayovac makes one that is rated at 7.4 amp-hrs and weighs 2.6 lbs. I'm guessing that this might give me a start and an hour or two of running time, enough to get me home. At about $12, might be cheap insurance.
Any thoughts? Gary
PS: Not sure what the current draw on the scoot is when its running, but I'm guessing it might be like 3 amps or so if I don't use the high beams.

Well I bought a lantern battery and tried it ..... it didn't work. Not enough CCAs to turn the motor over.
Anyone want to buy a very slightly used 12 volt lantern battery? Cheap. Gary

Dry cell batteries can't produce enough CCA. You could get a smaller sealed 12v battery. What you really need to do is fix the charging system.

Termite: If you had just posted this a little sooner I could have saved $20 . Cheers, Gary PS: I did carry a small 'sealed' AGM lead-acid battery under the seat for a while but it tipped over and leaked, making a bit of a mess. I'm wondering if perhaps the Porta Jump is the equivalent, but fully sealed (Its designed to go in a glove box.) Of course I could mount the back up battery more securely. Or I could fix the charging system....
