Here we go again guys When I ordered my new scoot from allnewsports they told me it was coming with a CD player. It came with a cassette player instead (total piece of crap) I called them they sent a CD player (even bigger piece of crap, total cost must have been $14.00 if that.) So I went out and bought my own (Sony, very nice) and new 4" Polk audio speakers. Sounds great until I turn the volume up high enough to hear it while i ride then the darn stereo keeps reseting itself I would imagine that its because A) am not getting enough juice from the battery B) not charging the battery enough (Stator) Any help or advice from you scooter geniuses out there Ya I know I'm a pain in the a$$, But I'm used to hearing that from my better half anyway. I'm sorry but i have about $250.00 invested in this stereo system now. I know Dummy right but thats just me, act first then think about it later. Thanks in advance guys Dave.

Are you experiencing "skip" because the CD is being jostled while riding and the anti-skip software in the player can't keep up with the demand placed on it?

oh no I'm sorry it does it when I'm in tuner mode, and even when I'm sitting still just turning up the volume, with CD or tuner, its definitely a power thing. would really like to get the darn thing fixed it has an i-pod accessory input would be cool to use my i-pod while cruising. everyone looks at me now when they hear me coming cranking Gwen Stefanie (WEEE HOOOO) LOL

I just want to add this real fast. It will keep playing when I have the volume turned down, It's when I bring the volume up and leave it there for a minute that it shuts itself down. Its like its draining my battery down to where it dont have enough power in the battery to sustain the volume level, I am trying to achieve. Just wondering if a better battery might help, and if anybody could recommend one. I am currently using the crappy china battery that came with the scoot. Hell I went this far why not spend another 50 bucks if it will fix it for me. Thanks again Dave

I'm no expert, but I might guess that the problem is with the CD player. Unless you have some huge amplifier, the scooter battery ought to be able to keep up.

Can you play the radio when the scooter engine is not running ? On my scoot, the engine needs to be running, which means that the battery is not supplying the current to the radio and is isolated from that circuit by a diode. If this is the situation you have, then your radio is supplied by current from the regulator and stator windings and not the battery. If that is the case, I would move the power supply wire for the radio to the battery circuit. But, be aware you can discharge the battery to the point that the starter will not operate.
Do the lights dim when you play the volume loud ? Does the problem occur while you are driving at normal speed or just at idle ? A J

This is the second decent cd player that ive tried, both are doing the same thing. NO i can play the radio or the cd player with just the key in the on positionn the scoot does not need to be running, but it seems like i can play it louder for longer it seems with the bike running but ive also noticed (

sorry about that I hit the wrong button there.
(I think anyway) that when my fan starts to kick on and off, It shuts itself off even more often, ya I know its a good one huh Dave

Is the radio unit under the seat where it gets HOT ? There may be a thermal shutdown on the output power transistors to prevent self-destruction from what is know as thermal runaway. Less likely is that the battery, or the wiring, can't deliver the current required at high volume. Can you monitor the voltage right where the power goes into the radio ?

I have thought about the battery not being up to snuff, think I'm going to try that one first the present battery is only a 7AH. I think I'm going to look for a stronger one. Any one have any suggestions where to buy a stronger battery where the amperage is known. Then I'll go for the wiring (maybe). Don't really want to start screwing around with wiring because of potential charging problem. Although now that I'm thinking about it, the wiring is considerably thinner on the scoot as compared to the new stereo, a lot thinner maybe thats my whole problem HMMMMM. something to look into. I know I could put thicker Gage wiring supplying the speakers, but I'm not sure about the power and ground without hurting any vital charging parts? Now I'm really starting to make this difficult. I think I'm going to look for a stronger one. but I'm not sure about the power and ground without hurting any vital charging parts? Dave Dave, That little 7 AH battery, if it is functioning correctly and is fully charged, is capable of putting out in excess of 200 AMPS instantaneously. If you short the terminals with a cloths hanger it will turn bright red and then melt off at one spot. Takes all of about 5 seconds. So, unless the battery is marginal, replacing it will not help your problem. I would try a temporary hookup, through a 10 amp fuse, running the radio wire direct to the battery + terminal. Run a ground wire also to the Neg. terminal of the battery and the radio ground wire if it has one, or to the chassis of the radio. If you need to add wire, use, at least, the wire size on the radio. A fuse holder and a few feet of wire are a lot less expensive than a new battery, which you may not need. A J

It does sound like a power issue if the fan cycling causes it to malfunction. Like AJ said. try running the line +Positive line from the stereo direct to the battery using an in-line fuse and a ground line. The battery should be more than enough to run any stereo even it's a high powered unit. I have ran several different types of stereos on several different cycles and have always had success. Running the stereo direct to battery also eliminates most noise in the stereo from the scoot electrical systems that get past the the stereos built-in filters.
Good luck. I love tunes will I ride!

Well thanks to all that helped me out, I got it last night while I was working so hard at work(you know how it is) All wired up and set to go. Thats what it was the wires from the scoot where to thin for the power of the stereo. Wired it directly to the battery and she sounds beautiful, plenty loud enough now once again thanks to all for your time and help.
