So my P250 and I got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on the interstate for 50 minutes. I got to notice that during the most of the waiting time, the temperature gauge went to the red line, then quickly went down to halfway, then quickly up to red line, and back and forth. I thought that the radiator would keep the bike cooled the entire time. Is this normal? The bike didn't smoke or act up, so I figured that some fan just kicked on and off to help cool it off. Just curious. Thanks!

The People 250 has a fan?

I'm not sure. But a lot of cycles I've seen have a fan connected to the radiator that will kick on when the temperature gauge rises to the hot side, then kicks back off when the temp is normal to low. I'm not sure if this is the case with the People 250 or not, I was just guessing.

Sounds like something was turning on to cool it. Some bikes will activate the fan continuously when the designated temp is reached. Since the fan pulls from the stator some bikes will not operate their fan continuously or the battery would be drained in standing traffic. Sounds like you have that kind. If it didn't boil over then its probably ok.

Yes , the kymco people 250 has a fan behind the radiator that should be to be heard starting andstopping when it cycles. You should also note it cycling about mid heat guage. Take the front radiator cover off It's only about 6 screws, there are 3 bolts to remove fan , jumper fan from battery to see if motor works. On the right side of the radiator is a temperature switch which controls the fan. Make sure the two wires are hooked up to it. My temperature switch was not hooked up on mine when it tried to overheat. Please note this is a seperate unit from the temperature sender for your guage. Also there is a download for a maintenance manual available online at kymcousa.com The text is useless but the pictures and wiring diagrams are great, as is the diagrams on how to remove the covers.

If everything else checks out, check to make sure you have plenty of coolant and no air pockets in the engine. This is an easy check. with scoot cool, remove the radiator cap and there should be coolant visible. If not, fill as needed and start the engine. Rev it a couple of time if the coolant goes down add more until it no longer needs more. Re-install and you're good to go.
