I took my new Ricardo 250 out yesterday for the first time and the temp. gauge stayed on H after about 5 min of riding the fan came on as I pulled into the garage, fluid level was right up there.Anything else I can check for?

Slick; Welcome to the Dawg Pound!
I would recommend that you post this in the "250 and up" section, then read the posts there. You will find valuable information about the 250s.
Most of the time, it is not that the scoot is running hot but that the temp. gauge is inaccurate. If your system is filled with coolant (http://www.oregonvintage.com/Coolant.pdf) and the cooling fan is cycling off-n-on, you are most likely OK. Ideally, you would expect the gauge to read in the middle but many are reading high. It is normal for the cooling fan to run for several seconds to a minute after the key is turned off, especially on a hot day.
If you have access to a laser thermometer, you can shoot the radiator for a temp. check.

Also, do check the hoses and ensure than none of them are kinked on you. Changing out the OEM radiator coolant fluid is very wise, as you really don't know what they put in it at the factory. Engine oil too.
