Ok, the saga begins (without pictures )
I broke down and installed the new J. Costa this morning without my doc's approval to use my hand...yeah, yeah..my wife has already lit into me over and over and over......
The tear down was straight forward and was pretty much like any scoot. Where it got tricky was that I had to file the spline slots a bit to get the new one on.
I used Sussex's tool less belt removal technique so the whole install took less than ten minutes with air tools and a torque wrench.
Prior to the install I had noted all of my rpm readings at the following speeds 40, 50, 60, 70, 80l, 90 and 95 mph.
I also had a flat spot in the power curve at around 1- to abot 22 mph.
On my first run without my gps aboard I had a very prevelant increase in torque all across the power band but most notably on the lower end from 1--40 mph. This thing seems to have cured many of my gripes about the Silverwing stock CVT. I had really bad variator knock starting at 40 mph and continueing across the power band at different intervals...and now? poof gone! No knock what so ever, at any speed..period.
My scoot never used to move away until I hit about 1900-2000 rpm and now engages at about 1500 rpm which is really nice..no hesitation at all.
At 70 mph the rpms are clocking at about 5800 which is about 1200 lower than before. The harmonic vibrations at low speed have vanished completely.
0-60 mph used to be about 5.8 secs on the S. Wing but has improved a LOT (by feel). I will know better when I get the gps on and test.
I will be able to give a better report after I road test on a medium distance ride sometime this coming week but, so far (knock wood), this thing rocks.
