I went on a 30k or so trip on my RR Race 250, to see how this thing works.. 1.Do scooters have some kind of limiter on them for the first X miles? 2.I did not change out the orig coolant from china until I got home, could this be the reason it was running hot? 3.Coolant flushing seems to be the one fluid I am not at all good with changing, any advice would be helpful. Hod does the system work, where even if you drain the radiator, there is still tons of fluid in the reservoir? 4.I read something here about issues with Ethanol mixed fuels, and here in NE, ALL gas over 87 octane has 10% Ethanol. Will there be an issue? Other than the slow speed, the usual speedometer issues, (I see 60, friend in car sees 45) and getting lost, all went pretty well. Comments, questions?

One way to get the overflow tank empty is siphon it out. If the hose is attached to the bottom you can blow it out with a hose with a rag to seal around the hose. Flush the radiator thoroughly. Then refill with new coolant and the overflow tank about halfway between the marks. There is no limiter. After break in performance should improve.

I usually remove the lower hose for draining since it's much faster and it's more complete. When refilling, you will get air lock, so lfill it, run the engine to temp with the radiator cap off and keep adding until the level stops dropping and the fan comes on. This way you are sure all of the air is purged. It's also a good idea to rev the engine a couple of times when warm to speed up the pump and force the air out. Pace speed isn't real accurate, but my speedo is indicating about 10 mph fast when using a GPS. 45 indicated is 34 GPS and 50 indicated is 39 GPS. I have not checked the accuracy of the odometer yet. Once again, I might recommend the pre-mixed 50/50 solution for aluminum engines. It takes the guess work out of the mixing and you don't have to make the separate trip for the distilled water.
Stan is definitely right about getting all the air out of system. This is not only important to make the engine cool properly it also helps prevent the formation of corrosion in th system.

Zerex makes a formulation that is low acid, to prevent erosion of metal inside the cooling system. It is called a "HOAT" blend (Hybrid Organic Acid Tech.), as opposed to "OAT" (Organic Acid Tech.). Look for "Zerex G-05". I have seen it in Auto Zone, Pep Boys and NAPA. This type has been stipulated for Mercedes and other German autos for many years. Any name brand coolant designed for aluminum components will do but this type is even better. Easier on plastic parts, too. Check out the pictures on the back of the container.
