I had read on this forum about some of the fuel problems with the 250cc scoots, particularly the vaccum fuel pump. Mine was hesitating and cutting out at around 50 mph, and then it stoped all together. I went to autozone as suggested here and bought a mr. gasket electronic fuel pump for 40 bucks and did away with the vaccum line and the scooter is running great!!
Took it out on the interstate today for the first time, (55 mph four lane) and it ran great, no more hesitation and the scooter seems to accelerate much faster than before. So far I have 158 miles on the scoot and am approaching my second oil change. Should I switch to synthetic oil with this change?
Thanks

Kibdog, I use Castrol synthetic 10w40, as it is almost impossible to find the factory recommended 15w40, since the first oil change.

K-Mart stocks 15W40 in our area. Stay with standard oil for at least 1K kilometers. For the synthetic version, get 5W40 diesel grade oil.

I just rechecked my owners manual, it recommends synthetic but non-synthetic can be used.
Diesel grade oil?

I use 10w-40 valvoline motorcycle oil. Not sure what the difference is with regular 10w-40 but it says it's manufactured for high temps and revs...
I just changed the 10w-40 motorcycle oil after about 1300km. It looked very clean and had only darkened a bit in color but nothing unusual. Seems to be working pretty good.

Don't use synthetic until the engine is broken in, the rings may not seat properly. With frequent oil changes, using synthetic may never really be necessary. It's important to do frequent oil changes during the break in period to get rid of any metal shavings. I would change the oil (engine and gear oil) after 100, 300, 500, 1000 km and then every 1000 km. I think that is the most common interval advised. If you go to a bike shop they should have the proper synthetic grade, other then that the 15W 40 seems to be OK in most cases except for really cold weather. I have even seen some 0W 40 synthetics in auto parts places. Here in Trinidad the Royal Purple (which is a 100% synthetic) just became available, they have a 10W 40 Motorcycle specific oil: www.royalpurple.com/prodsa/mcycle.htmlbut you can also use their standard multi grade synthetic, also available in 10W40, it will be more then fine: www.royalpurple.com/prodsa/rpmoa.htmland finally here is the their gear oil: www.royalpurple.com/prodsa/mgeara.htmlusing this link, you may locate a dealer near you: www.royalpurple.com/dealers/dealers.htmlNow to wait for my commission pay cheque ;D ...... just kidding of course, hope this helps Andi
