Well, the Kymco P250 just had its first service, carb was adjusted (it was idling @ 1400rpm, now about 800rpm) brakes adjusted, oil changed, whole kit n' kaboodle. $95, and now I can finally let er rip.
Since windblast was already an issue, I decided to add the $75 windscreen...huge difference. Can't wait to get the top box...
Okay, first impressions for 1k:
The bike warms up faster, and the lower idle speed means it's less frantic sounding at stoplights. It is quite a hoot that a 250cc scoot is about as fast as a 400, especially from a dead stop. Chevy Cavaliers, Dodge Durangos, Ford Explorers, even an Acura Integra is left at the light. Great!
At an indicated 120 kph (about 75mph), it is quite stable, even with freeway crosswinds and turbulence from larger vehicles. I am currently trying to find a cheap GPS to get a better fix on the TRUE speed this thing is capable of...anyway, I still get the "rearview double take" when I barge along the freeway and catch car and SUV drivers unawares. The windscreen makes it very comfortable, and keeps the larger projectiles (bees, large beetles) from thunking me in the noggin. From those higher speeds, there is some front end dive during panic stops (it seems that the entry ramp is even more suited for them to try to kill us...beware!)...the Burg 400 never seemed to have front end dive. However, braking was linear and predictable, no shimmy or rattle or shake...and no locked up wheels.
I am a little steamed that the Italkit 300cc big bore doesn't work for this scoot...
Sorry for the tangent, but anyway, I am liking this more and more. I hope to do a longer (>1hr) ride come Memorial Day. Why didn't I discover scoots sooner???
As the son of a Vietnam Vet, I am more than thankful that my pop is alive to celebrate Memorial Day with me...and very happy that now, he and I can share the wonder of scootering, and that I will most likely pay for the gas for both scoots (as if these things guzzle alot of the 93 octane!). Men and women, brothers and sisters, thank you SO VERY MUCH for fighting for me, Aaron, Charlie, Jacine, Dennis, David, and all of the Dawgs on this forum. You make me happy to be American, and happy to be a proud owner of a new scoot. God Bless!
