Hello everyone, I am new to this board and my wife just recently ordered me a scooter from allnewsports.com as a birthday/father's day gift. I was wondering if anybody on here has had any experiences with this company and what I may expect from them. The scoot is a roadster 250cc, looks exactly like the one on the VIVA website. Of course it is already on back order, according to the guy from allnewsports we should be getting it around the first part of June. All opinions welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks

KIB: I purchased a 250 Tourer from Allnew a couple of months ago. The scooter runs great, but my experience has been mixed. Since your scooter is already on order, maybe you should just keep your fingers crossed and not read any further.... The good: The price was terrific ($1775 delivered). The scooter arrived quickly (within a week from Vernon, California) and in perfect condition. The certificate of origin came a week or so later.
The bad: Despite many promises from the salesperson (Jeffrey), Allnew was unable to provide any documentation that the scooter was CARB certified. The battery died after two days - at first Jeffrey said the battery was not covered under warranty ("its a temporary battery") but eventually he did send me a replacement. The charging system also wasn't working - at first Jeffrey said this was normal ("the charging system and the battery aren't matched up.") Eventually he agreed that there was aproblem and would send a replacement stator. (Charging system failures seem to be very common on these Chinese 250s lately). The radiator fill neck and starter switch failed and a couple of dash pieces cracked. Jeffrey promised to send replacements but nothing has been sent yet ("they are on backorder"). UPDATE: A replacement swithch and on dash panel arrived today
On balance, I think I've been lucky that nothing really serious has gone wrong with the scooter. I've been able to find workarounds for all of the problems and have been able to keep riding. And, as I said at the beginning, the scooter runs great. So, I still feel like I got a good deal. I hope in the end you and your wife feel that way too. Gary

Gary,
Thanks for all the info, it sure helps when other people are willing to give insight into their own experience. I am more nervous about the whole backorder thing than anything else, but it sounds like they do get your stuff to you even if it takes a while. I am just dying to get my scooter and check it out. Hopefully it will be sent out this week, I am going to call them if I don't hear anything by Thursday.
Thanks again and I will keep the board updated on my experience.

Linda, I have a Roadrunner 250 TLX and though it is different in some ways, I believe is has the same engine and drive package as your scoot. I have put a couple of threads on this site with pictures on how to change the engine oil, gear lube and coolant. This is the one on the engine oil and gear lube. scootdawg.proboards59.com/index.cgi?board=200cc&action=display&thread=1178828285I think this one help you find out where everything goes and how to get it in. This one is on the cooling system. scootdawg.proboards59.com/index.cgi?board=200cc&action=display&thread=1178307399I believe many of the components of cooling system are located in slightly different locations but I think this will help. Good luck getting your scoot straightened out. I sure you will enjoy your scoot when you get it running.

Monty's right. Get those 3 (engine and gear oil, coolant) taken care of and you should be good to go.
Also double check all bolts and nuts. Aside from the engine compartment, I made sure everything was tight. Also check the two tire valves to see if they are in good condition, otherwise you might get a flat.

Linda - That really sucks. I bought from Allnew also (a Viva 250 - probably the same scoot with a different decal). I've had some problems, but nothing like yours. The scoot was clearly new and came straight from the importer. It had all the fluids in it (except gas), started up the first try, and runs great. A few parts have failed, but Allnew has been living up to their warranty and sending me replacement parts.
You clearly got something totally different - maybe a scoot that was sold to somone else and returned, who knows. So, and you've probably done this already, I'd insist they take the scooter back. Threaten small claims court, slamming them on the internet, whatever, and see what happens. This is really wrong, and I'm very disappointed for you.

Update: My scooter (VIVA 250cc Roadster) shipped Monday from allnewsports.com and is scheduled for delivery on Wed. 30th. I am so excited to be getting it and can't wait to get it on the road. Anybody have any idea if the K-Mod procedure for the Honda Reflex will work on this scoot considering it is a knockoff of the Reflex? I will probably wait a while before trying the K-Mod anyways but I would like to get some opinions from people here in the mean time. I will keep everyone updated as I receive it and start to get it legal. I will also post some pics when I get a chance.

The engine is not a Reflex clone, only the the frame and body. The engine is however a clone of the Helix 244cc.

Are there any acceleration modifications that can be done with the 250cc Helix clone engine?
Thanks

I'm not up on the Helix, but there are many mods you can do on the 244cc clone Honda engine. Intake filters, carb jets, exhaust. Pick your local Honda dealers brain on this one, but don't tell him you have a Chinese scoot, they are kind of touchy on this stuff. Just tell him you are thinking about modifying a Helix, a good Honda mechanic should be able to help.

The really easy mods are changing the variator weights, jetting, fuel pump, and air cleaner. The weights will make a big difference, but you need to also match them to rider weight. Usually, if you go from the stock 26 grams to either 21 or 24, you will improve acceleration. The air box can be replaced with a foam filter at the rear connection of the air tube off the carburetor, but you will need to replace your main jet with either a 115 or 120. Then, you will find the vacuum pump can't deliver at high speed, so replace it with an electric pump (Mr Gasket #12S) from Auto Zone (about $40) and you are good to go. Stan PS: This applies to the CFMoto engine in the Touring body only. 12string Are there any acceleration modifications that can be done with the 250cc Helix clone engine? Thanks

Stan, I have the viva roadster model 250cc, I am 205 lbs. What weight rollers do you recommend for the best acceleration gains. Also are the aircleaner, jetting, and fuel pump modifications different for this version of the viva scooter, if so do you know what they may be? I know that read on here earlier in the week that someone had a problem with fuel starvation and they replaced the vaccum pump with a low pressure automotive pump and that did the trick for them. Here's the scooter I am referencing.

Hi Guys, You should note that my factory is telling me that Jonway is using a different engine than the one used on the RoadRunner 250 racer. The engine used by Jonway is a variation of the 250 touring engine. I won't say that they are always right but they are usually right on the money. Can anyone forward a picture of the engine? I couldn't find what Linda had to say but can tell the flavor from this answer. The best way to resolve this kind of problem is to cooperate with the company. If they are really jerking you around, then call your credit card company and dispute the payment, that should get their attention. I'm sorry you are having a bad experience with your scooter purchase and hope you will be able to work it out. Rony evosales.com

Got my ''ROADSTER 250'' from ALLNEWSPORTS a few weeks ago,no problems with delivery, damage, or running except for the fuel starvation many have experienced. It cruises 60 no problems run up to 70 to pass and you best be ready for a quick slow down, right now it's too hot to work on it or ride except early mornings. At this time i'am very pleased with this purchase. KEEP ON SCOOTIN!
