I thought it would be interesting to start a thread to see what (common) problems other scooter owners have encountered.
I had my first one at 700km:
* Tire valve broke with flat tire as consequence: cost = $100
I did check all bolts and nuts again tonight to make sure nothing else can cause an issue. Besides the engine ones, everything is retightened. Hopefully I'm having some more troublefree miles now.

My last scooter had cooling problems, turned out it was a crack in either the cylinder or head letting compression get into the cooling system. After some repairs(that didnt fix it) the dealer gave me full price paid towards another scooter. This one has been great for 1700+ ks and then I noticed a slight coolant leak---a pinhole in the radiator. It must have got nicked by a stone, so I am in the process of replacing it now and I am going to put a screen in front of it so this does not happen again. Art

My main issue right now is that the charging system isn't working. Haven't spent enough time yet to determine if its the stator, voltage regulator, or something else.

Just niggly little things so far but then she really hasn't been on the road as yet. The latch broke on the rear box before I even had it attached to the scooter. Yesterday the seat lock refused to unlock. Evos answer was to try squirting some WD40 into it so a bit later this morning I am going to take her out to get that and then come back on change the oil.

PuttPutt, You probably shouldn't put WD40 in the keylock itself (i.e., the part where the key fits in) unless you are sure that part is frozen/corroded. The WD collects dirt which causes problems later. Better to use graphite powder lubricant there (availale at any hardware store).
PS: What kind of scoot do you have?

A RoadRunner 250 Touring model. The lock turned out to be fine, there is just a lot of spring tension because you are actually pulling on two latches with the key, one on the side of the seat and one at the back. It runs great by the way, always starts with the first crank and in my most town driving this morning the temp guage never got to the half way mark.

Roketta Fiji 150: Mine just has a irritating problem of breaking the muffler straps on it. I am experimenting with improvements for that issue. Other than that it has just been the usually loose nuts and bolts, you have to watch out for.

Having a couple that I dealing with. Broken radiator fill neck, air hose nipple. Gary ot in San Diego gave me a great fix. High strenght fiberglass patch. applied it to the snapped off nipple and fill neck. working great. Have a replacement part on order from the dealer.
Light are always on when I connect the battery. Checked all the connections along the wiring harness hoping for a quick fix. Sound like I may have to dig in deeper. I have installed a in-line switch on the small positive lead that looks like it runs off to the volt recitfier and ignition switch until I find the time and the knowledge to track this one down.
Just recently, only had the scoot for a week, the battery does not have enough power to start the scooter at the end of the day of riding. Will stop/start for most of the day of running around town or just going for a ride. After about 4 hours of stop/start riding the battery won't kick over the starter. Not sure if it is the battery or the charging system. Need help on this on along with the lights always on issue. Could be related.

My main issue right now is that the charging system isn't working. Haven't spent enough time yet to determine if its the stator, voltage regulator, or something else. me too! My Viva 250 will not charge a battery. Voltage regulator changed 4 times, stator and battery changed. I have given up. May spend all free time bashing Tanks,Baron and vivas! Just kidding. Anybody have a similar problem and fixed it?

Chuckklr, Your post and a couple of others like it are intriguing. Are you saying that you tried four different stators and none of them worked, or is that you installed a new stator, it worked for a while then failed, and you repeated this cycle four times? Thanks!
