Driving home tonight from work, I heard something small hit the rear wheel. I wasn't on the public road yet, so I quickly pulled over to see what happened. At the back of the engine, it looked like some screw came loose. Inspecting it closer, I'm not quite sure why the screw is needed as it seems to be a solid piece of metal?? So, I carefully rode home. Either way, I have the 172MM engine and does: 1) Anybody know what the function of the screw is? Is it really critical? 2) What kind of screw is it and where to get it? Size? P/N number?? Thanks so much! I attached three pics below to show you what I mean...

There is no screw or bolt on my 172MM engine either and I don't recall ever seeing one there. I suspect it is simply an unused attachment point for some item required for a different configuration of the engine.
Your object was probably from some other source or could have been just a pebble thrown by the tire. Do keep checking though.

Here are a couple of pictures of my 250 CF Moto. It does not ahve anything in the hole either. The bolt in my hand it the drain bolt. As you can see from both pictures the hole is empty. DJ is prabably right. A pebbple or something hit the scoot. Give it a good going over again just to be safe.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the response. Maybe it was a pebble then? Either way, on Sunday I'll take the CVT cover off again (man, I hate those long screws) and see if anything in there came loose.
I wondered why there would be a screw there; it's wouldn't be holding anything together...

Also, I was going so slow that it felt like the 'hit' was too loud. I almost feel like something inside hit the drive belt. I'll keep you guys posted what I find...

It looks like it will take an 8.5 metric bolt head. You can determine the depth by probing the hole.

Don't know if you originally had a bolt in there but that location is used to anchor the left side of an inner fender that Tank includes with it's Touring models. My Roketa did not have one. I ordered one from Scooters Georgia last year and installed it. Reduced the mud/dirt splash. There wasn't a bolt in mine either.
Could also have been a stone thrown up under the body, as already suggested.

It was just the first thing that came to mind as it looked like it could be the right location. Mud splash? In Socal? LOL

Yeah, forgot about your location. Don't they have a law against mud so the vehicles never get dirty?
