I've had my Viva for a month now and am still trying to get a CARB certificate out of allnewsports. None of the tags on the scooter say anything about CA, they all are for US EPA only. I've seen a Tank CARB certificate on the web. Anyone have any ideas on something similar for Viva - I'm getting desperate.
Many thanks, Gary

That sucks... as far as I know, if it's CARB approved, the tag should be affixed to the scooter. Maybe someone else from CA can enlighten us on that. Unfortunately many online dealers/distributors will tell you anything before the sale, and most have some kind of disclaimer like this: Since each state have different state laws and requirement, we do not guarantee all scooters or vehicles sold on our website to be street legal or registerable. Please check with your local DMV for state specific requirements such as registration, age requirements and helmet laws prior to any purchase. California residents require C.A.R.B. approval (California Air Resolution Board) to be legal in the state of California. That came off of their faq page: allnewsports.com/faq.htmThough they say legal in 50 states, they only said DOT/EPA approved in their specs. Since they didn't have that disclaimer in their terms and conditions, hopefully that will give you some recourse.

The CA carb certificate should be affixed somewhere on the bike. If you can get a helpful dmv person they should be able to tell you if that model and brand is approved in CA. If it is and the bike is missing the sticker/plaque then at least you have some where to start. However if it isn't you may be out of luck.

Dennis, Jacine: I know you guys are right. The Viva web site says their scooters are CARB certified, but I need the documentation. I went through the same issue with a Tank 150 last year. I bought the Tank from a guy who picks them up from Tank Sports in LA, and sells them at the swap meet here in San Diego. Initially, the scooter didn't have anything saying CARB on it, and the DMV refused to register it. The guy I bought the scooter from took it back to Tank Sports, where they affixed a simple plastic decal that says CARB on it. After that, registration was no problem.
I'm going to have to take another look at the CARB sticker on my Tank to see if it could possibly pass muster on my Viva if I transferred it over.... Gary

I don't see that Allnewsports are CARB approved on their web page. I may have missed it but I think you may have a problem.

I knew there was something fishy about that site. I'm pretty sure they used to be jkscooters among many other names that they stopped using due high numbere of complaint against them. Beware who you buy from. Only use delaers that come recommended from forums like this.

Have to agree with JD. Don't really know what I was thinking... Guess I just got swayed by the low price and the fact that a knowledgeable sounding human being answered when I called.
I was able to get the scooter registered, but only after I transferred the CARB sticker from my Tank to my Viva. I'm convinced there is no way I would have passed without the sticker. The inspector didn't question the disparity in the brand name or displacement. All she cared about were the magic words California Air Resources Board.
So, now I have my license plate and I'm good to go. The scooter is running really great. The charging system still isn't working, but I'm dealing with that by charging each night. I'm also getting more used to the size of the beast.
