So, I know that many people have speedos that are off by a bit, but mine seems to be way off. I have a Baron 250 tourer. The speedo needle is buried at about 30mph according to my GPS. At close to 15mph it is about midway across the face. Any ideas as to what is going on and how I might get it closer to actual speed. Or alternatively i have been considering getting something like the Vapor computer trailtech.net/vapor.html or something similar. Any suggestions?

Most likely it needs regearing which would mean a trip to the local speedometer shop. Save the money and either buy that computer, or a bike computer (there's a post here explaining how to set one up on a scooter).

I have a bike computer on my mountain bike that I just posted for sell on craigslist. I also have a Garmin eTrex that I currently have velcroed to the top of the brake cylinder. I am figuring sell off the mt. bike and throw that money at a decent dashboard computer. Still looking for other options to the Vapor.

You can look at other GPS units. THe other day I picked up a Whistler www.whistlergroup.com/gps-text-550.html at CompUSA (who is going out of business) for $140. I am sure you would be happier with a unit that would read off speed and give ya some type of GPS navigation compared to the vapor. Also, the vapor needs to be wired into your scooter, where as the GPS is a simple mount. You won't get RPM info on the GPS, or a fuel gauge, but oh well. If you are looking to spend the money then go for something good. I too have a eTrek on my handlebars, and it has kept me at the proper speeds in school zones and such. So anything is better than nothing. Tom

Its' all about personal taste.. I agree with the above mentioned.. you could go inexpensive and get accurate data for speed.. (bike tach) and go up high along the GPS.. get lots of data about were you are.. or hit mid range, hopefully you know where you are and know how fast it took to get there.. I picked up the vapor cause I wanted a tach. The MiniTAch for 35 bucks on the web along with a bike speedo for under 25 will work.. Question is... What you want..
