Hey guys,
I apologize for once again asking some questions. I changed the engine oil on my scooter last night (first oil change) and I read that changing the transmission/gear oil simultaneously is a good idea. However, looking through my manual, they do not mention anything about gear oil?! Is is possible it uses the engine oil also? I'm confused...
If it DOES have separate gear oil, what should I use and where exactly do I have to drain+replace it?
On a separate note, what oil is recommended to lube the drive belt?
Thanks so much ;D!

I'm not sure about the gear oil on the 250, but DO NOT GET ANY OIL OR GREASE ON THE BELT AND RELATED PARTS.

Your scoot uses regular gear oil, not engine oil. Purchase some regular, blend, or synthetic gear oil from your local auto parts store or WalMart. It will be marked 75W90 or 80W90. Get a bottle with a long, tapered spout.
Place your scoot on the center stand. The CVT cover hides the drain plug and mostly hides the fill plug. You must remove the CVT cover - eyeball it to see what must be unbolted and disconnected. At the rear of the scoot on the aluminum housing, under the CVT cover, you will see two bolts with washers under their heads. The one about halfway up the end of the housing is the fill hole and the one toward the bottom of the housing is the drain hole. Remove the top bolt, remove the bottom bolt and allow the gear oil to drain. Replace the bottom bolt. Cut the tip of the spout on the gear oil bottle and and insert it into the fill hole. Very slowly squeeze the oil into the fill hole until it just starts to run back out. No need to really measure the amount. Clean up everything and reassemble.
If you have not already done so, you should go back and read the old posts to gain more information about servicing your scoot.

I have a 250 tourer type with the cfmoto 244cc engine.
This is a pretty easy service, or was for me when I did it for the first time last week. Make sure that you ride around for a bit to warm up the gear oil before draining it. Also when you go to take off the CVT cover, if you are facing the CVT look up and to the left and there is a clamp for what I think is an air inlet that needs to be unscrewed to allow the cover to come off easily. I didn't see it when I took mine off the first time and had a hard time putting it back together before I noticed the clamp. Do not get any oil on the belt. Might even want to tie a plastic bag around the clutch to prevent any spillage on to the belt, etc.

Luciano, Ollie's directions are right on. Another write-up with photos can be found on Stan Jessup's Oregon Vintage site. The link is here: www.oregonvintage.com/250cvt.pdf. Stan's site is very helpful for other things too. Also, follow swampsniper's advice and make sure no grease or oil gets on the belt or pulleys. I can speak from experience that that is not a good thing. Gary

Time to research is sometimes tough to find. So, there is no lubrication needed for the drive belt? In the maintenance table of the manual it said "inspect and lube" after the first 300km. Man, those manuals truly suck!

MANUAL??? You have a manual? ;D Just kidding, but in reality, there IS a quality manual out there for the CFMoto (Honda clone) 250's. Get a copy of the early 90's Honda CN250 Helix service manual (parts manual will also help), and you will have the best manual for your scooter and engine. BTW, no, there is no lubricant used in the CVT other than the gearbox. Stan Luciano, Ollie's directions are right on. Another write-up with photos can be found on Stan Jessup's Oregon Vintage site.
