Now that my wife is getting a Bandit XC-150z Scooter, I'm considering selling my Dual Purpose and getting a Scooter as well. My commute to work is about 28 miles each way, one third of which is highway. I figured a 250cc would be better there. Anybody know of the Roadrunner 250cc i-scooter for sale at: www.evosales.com/pd_fastracescooterbuyonline.cfm#Looks like a Vento Phantom, but with a 257cc engine and listed at 19 hp@6500 rpm. I prefer the more basic look and style of this 250cc scooter over the touring models which seem to be most common in the Chinese 250cc class. Any reviews for the scooter or seller. Any other suggestions, I like the Kymco People and Bet&Win, but they unfortunately are out of my price range.

Andi; I don't have any experience with that specific scooter but some with a Roketa Fiji 150 in that body style. That style is a very popular one for the 150 cc engine but not seen very much in a 250. The scoot is lighter and has a shorter wheelbase than the typical "Touring" style 250. I did enjoy my Roketa 150 but found the ride to be on the harsh side for me as it had a stiffer sport tuned suspension. The low profile 13" tires are great for handling but have a shorter sidewall, thus less flex capability, providing a slightly firmer ride. Specs on the site do not indicate which type engine/drive train is installed on the scoot. So far, all the scoots with the Honda clone 250 engine have a 10" rear wheel and tire - specs indicate 13" but sellers have been known to incorrectly list the size so as not to turn off potential buyers. If it does have a 13" rear wheel/tire, it will have the Linhai/Yamaha engine/drive train. I believe this engine is good but here in the U.S. we don't have as much experience with it. The vast majority of 250 Chinese bikes sold here have the CFMoto Honda clone design engine. Rumor has it that there will be CFMoto 250 engines with 13" wheels & tires sometime this year.
The scoot should be really peppy with the 250 because of the lighter weight and a nimble handling bike. The style is nice with the flat floor and it doesn't take up quite as much space in the garage. Price is certainly good as they have been listed for over a year at +3K. Hope this helps some.

I have one of these shipping to me this week for some evaluation. I'll post the results on my site when I start this, but from what I know of the engine design, I like it better than the CFMoto 250 engine. We'll see. Andi Stan knows his stuff and it would well be worth your while to wait for his input. What is your budget? If you want a cool 250cc scoot that screams not a touring scoot then look at the Italjet Dragster 250 coming soon imported by Diamo USA. Unfortunately I expect it to be well over $5000 give or take.

Aaron, not a problem I will wait on Stan. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the input and advice from everybody so far. Scoot Dawg is by far the most helpfull, genuine and polite Scooter Forum out there. I've visited a few other forums and wouldn't even consider joining (for what? to be belittled and insulted?) In regards to my budget unfortunately for me everything is times 6.3. $1.00 US =$6.30 TT (Trinidad/Tobago Dollars), which means I'm looking at Chinese pricing again. I've been browsing around the web and came across one particular Model that has caught my eye, don't know anything about the two Different sellers, both sell the same thing for the same price. Do you know anything about them? www.tomaliscooters.com/pd_racing_scooter.cfmwww.evosales.com/pd_fastracescooterbuyonline.cfm#I'm not even sure if the specs are correct, the price is certainly attractive, a good bit less then the very similar Baron. If pricing proofs to much for me, I've also looked at the Strada RX200HP and the Strada Eurojet 150i that "Dawg" reviewed. Both seem to be similar in performance and have a little more "umpf" compared to the standard GY6 Models. Would you know what the cruising speed for either would be?

If I'm not mistaken the Strada RX200HP has a factory installed oil cooler. I've seen aftermarket oil cooler kit's selling, would that be a good upgrade to get considering our tropical climate (for my wife's Bandit XC-150z)

Andi there are a few members that have added the oil cooler and like them... we have members that ride GY6 engined scoots in Pheonix AZ which is very hot and areas in southern CA with no problems..the key is movement not a lot of idling time. As to my Retro 250..alas I haven't seen one other thant the Kymco People 250 which I don't really consider Retro or in my budget at over $4000. If I get a Retro it will be the Honda Joker Clone put out by so many in a 150cc GY6. Bandit sells one, Tank has one, Ricardo Motors has one, Baron sells one, TNG sells one and more. I like this style scoot it's funky and cool and has that tailfin Cadillac feel to it. If I get a 250 I am leaning toward a Helix Clone.....(Hides head in shame as the Boos and Hisses come forth). Some hate it, I like it. As to the the Phantom styled 250cc scoot your referencing truth is no has one on this board and we know little about them. Stan says he's gonna get one to look into...when Stan looks into one he takes it all apart and finds out what makes it tick then reengineers it. Stan rocks! As to cruising speed for the RX150i and RX200HP both should top 60 mph easily and cruise 55 GPS honest speed. Probably marginally faster as they wear in and better still if your not a fat guy like me!

I'm with you Aaron. I had a Helix for 18 years. When I bought it I didn't think it was good looking but it sure was a good ride. The trunk would hold 2 gallons of milk or 4 6 packs of beer. ;D

Andi, You got me thinkin... and wantin to do some experimenting! ( - ; We already know that the Phantom clones (which is a clone itself) are capable of housing a 257cc Linhai engine... so we are checking to see what is involved on one of our old DC-150z scooter models. But when I was measuring the 257cc engine, I went ahead and checked our current XC-150z model to see if there was enough clearance on it... and there is. So then I got really excited and checked our RC-150z model. I'm not promising anything, but we're gonna look at all of them and see what we can muster. An RC-250z would just be the coolest thing since sliced bread... ( - ; By the way, that first link that you provided to evo looks like the 257cc to me... what details I can make out on the engine. Will report back... Jim J... Bandit MotorSports www.bandit-motorsports.com

Jim, I believe you are right about EVO and the 257cc Linhai engine being stuffed in the Racer shell. I should have one next week to see how it all fits together. Good concept actually when you consider the lighter cahssis weight and bigger engine, it should be a rocket. Stan Andi, You got me thinkin... and wantin to do some experimenting! Jim do the Retro in the 250...Pretty Please with sugar on it! ...LOL That would probably cover all my needs a bit more power, classic style... better up the capacity from 330 to 400 or so though..it's gonna be a chick magnet! Especially us balding gotee wearing fat guys riding the pink ones! Seriously build it! It will sell, there is no affordable retro 250.

Jim,
seems I'm not the only one thinking this way. I really hope it works out, certainly appears you got yourself some immediate sales, besides me. Although I do like all of your models, I really like the modern, nimble and simple XC-150z.
Btw ... my wife passed her motorcycle license this morning and the XC150z was delivered in Florida, you can imagine the excitement. Just got to get it down here now, should riding within a month.

I bought a Lifan LF200GY-5 last August, but didn't get it until late November (I brought it along with a Mobile crane I imported for my company, safed me the shipping cost).
Since then my wife, who has never even been near a bike, wondered if she could ride. I told her there was only one way to find out, by going got to a driving school and give it a try. Now she can't wait for the scooter and is already planning a camping trip to our sister island, Tobago.
Since then I thought maybe a scooter would be more fun, for both of us to go on little trips together, rather then my dual sport and her scooter. I would just like a little more umpf for my daily 56 mile commute to work.
I had many different bikes in the past mostly Dual Sport types. My last bike before the Lifan was a BMW R100 I sold before moving down here from Canada. I've been itching to get back on a bike since then.
Never owned a scooter before, but always thought they would be fun and certainly very functional and practical as an all around get around.

Actually, this February 20 years ago I rode a 1985 Honda XL 100 from Nashville Tennessee to the West coast of Mexico. Took me 4 1/2 days, stayed down there for 3 months. It was an incredible experience, which I would like to sequel someday, again on a bike.

The GY-5 is a nice bike Andi I had a Jetmoto GY200 I recently sold. Inverted forks and dual disc brakes like your Lifan...different bodywork though this was a week before I sold it... about 6 weeks ago Are you a member of www.chinariders.net ? Great Chinese Motorcycle site helpful and friendly like this one. I'm ACD there too. Like you I thought another motorcycle was the answer after my other scoot. Turns out I needed to get a 250 scoot. Tired of the motorcycle thing but spoiled by the performance... never had a BMW though or a Harley but I've ridden both and liked the Beemer. The Harley I just could take it or leave it... nice to look at Ok to ride but not worth double the money over a Jap cruiser.

Nice bike and your right very similar to the Lifan.
I'm a member at chinarider since last October, after I bought the Lifan, got a lot of very usefull info and feedback already.
The Beemer was a nice bike very solid and comfortable great for long drives. Trinidad is quit small and I believe a 250cc would very comfortably get you anywhere.
Motorcycles have become quite popular here, mostly Japanese sports bikes and they are getting bigger all the time. Most ride them for recreational use rather than commuting. Aren't many Scooters around here, the only ones are for fast food delivery, 125 Daelim's seem to be most common.
My wife will be one of very few woman riders and scooter riders as well, most people down here are afraid of bikes, but heck she might just start a new trend yet.

Aaron,
I like the Scooter in you new Avatar, is that the new "Tank" armour plated soot? LOL.
Looks like a Snapping Turtel? We used to have those in a pond at my parents place in Canada many years ago.
Hope that Jim at Bandit comes back with some positive feedback on the midsized 250's, I'm sold!

I am very interested in this model too. I've stayed away from the 250's because they all had tiny rear wheels, this is the first 250 i've seen that can handle the larger 13 inch wheel.
