I've had a Tank Sporty 150 for about a year now, and have been very happy with it for my commute to work on city streets. But now my son is using it for his commute to school, so I'm thinking about another scoot.
It would be nice to have a scoot that could take a short hop on the freeway - not for long trips, just that little 1 or 2 mile hop between exits. The 150 isn't quite up to the task (except at rush hours when traffic is moving at a snails pace!), so I'm now looking to step up to a 250.
I really would like the roadrunner iRace 250, but its not CARB certified (yet). My second choice is the Tank Touring 250. Any thoughts on whether the TT250 would be suitable for short freeway hops? Thanks! PS: I've never seen a single scooter on the freeway here yet - I could be a trend setter.

I had a Helix 250 which has the same engine as a lot of these scooters with a 10" rear wheel. It was just fine on the freeway especially for short hops. I would keep it at 70 most of the time.

Gary,
I have a Bandit UC250Z and I drive it on the freeways here in Phoenix, and I go about 75-80 mph.

Thanks Wendell. That would work for me. You must be happy with the scoot otherwise also. Build quality, etc. The Bandit is a bit more expensive than the other 250cc scoots I've been considering (Tank touring, Roadrunner iRace). But I assume you get what you pay for. Gary

Gary it's a little published fact that Lee attempted a review of a Tank 250... notice the lack of information about the event. Some Tanks seem great and the owners are happy can't argue that fact. That very vague statement made about the issue I'll add this. The Bandit comes already test run. The Bandit is the Linhai engine the Tank is the Helix clone..both good engines but slight performance edge to the Linhai. I really think in the end it comes down to the dealer you buy from. If you have your heart set on the Tank and don't have a local dealer try John at Valley Scooters www.scootersus.com or Scootertronics www.scootertronics.com. Both should still remember you you after they have your money and will help you after the sale. And yes both are perfectly capable of freeway hops.

The scoot dealer outside of Boise that I bought my 150 from has been riding a Tank 250 since they came out. Periodically takes the interstate the 20 plus miles into Boise and has never had any problems. When Tankcommander and I took a road trip out to see them and drink their coffee last weekend I got to test drive a new 250 they had on their lot. I've been trying the 'puppy dog' eyes on the wife to let me go buy it.

tankgunner; Any specs you can share about the new Tank 250? Such as, does it still use the CFMoto Honda derived engine & drive train (vertical cylinder)? Is the rear wheel/tire combination still 10" or now 13". When you say "new", is it a revised (from original '06) '07 model? Rumor has it that we will see a new version of the 250 drive train from CFMoto, with a 13" rear wheel, sometime in '07.
