Ran across some info about the Sportcity. It looks like it would be a great 250 scoot; it has fuel injection, two front and one rear disc, and 15" wheels. Can't seem to find anyone that has one for sale yet, and no idea as to pricing. Anyone seen any for sale? How do Aprilias stack up against Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha, Kymco, and the new wave of Chineses scoots?

Aprilia is just about on the top of the stack. I don't think this will be cheap.

If you think getting Chinese scooter parts is hard, wait till you try for a new Aprilia design. ALthough the company is coming out of bankruptcy fine, problems with part supplies seem to be a problem in the US.

I agree that they look wonderful, but what caught my eye was that it was a 250 with fuel injection...I think it's the only one in its class with fuel injection.

Johnnyscoots, There are other 250 scoots with FI. I am certain the Morphus and Vespa GTS are fuel-injected, however I am pretty sure all of the Italian 250's are fuel-injected as well. They use that 244cc LEADER engine and I believe it has FI.

The 250/244cc Piaggio/Vespa engines are the QUASAR (QUArter liter Smooth Augmented Range) design engines...whatever that means ;D. Some are fuel injected and some are not. My Piaggio BV250 is not, and it's going into the shop tommorrow for fuel/carb related problems...grrrr.

I guess not.

That new Yammy Xcity looks like the right scoot, w the right features, etc. 250cc is "ideal", ...enough engine to compete on most roads, but doesnt make the scoot so large/heavy that you cant toss it around in tight spaces. Re the Italian 'LEADER' engines, didnt someone say they were pigs on fuel?? The 250cc "SuperVespa" does have FI, also liquid cooling.

I was checking out the link to the Sportcity and noticed the 50cc scooter for $3000. Why would anyone pay a whopping three grand for a little 50cc scoot? I heard that Aprillia was expensive, but thats nuts. (IMHO)

I have to agree, I don't remember any Italian scooter or motorcycle that was easy to get parts for. I have no idea how long it might take to get anything for one of those.
Many years ago, I noticed that although Ducatis were all great and ran great, most all the bikes were, sort of, all duct taped together, as no one could get parts for them.

I would agree that Yamaha is making a mistake not bringing that 250 stateside.

I looked into them before I purchased, seat height was high for me. Brakes are excellent. Somebody was posting a used one for sale locally but they wanted far too much for it. I have seen some places selling new old stock 09's for $3K. A couple people on this board rave about them.
I ended up with the Kymco for $4600 new from the dealer and have been happy because it fits my hobbit-like height much better.
Someone in the Minneapolis area posts a craiglist ad once in a while saying they stock Aprillia scooter parts. I was going to link it in one of these threads but he has not run the ad in a while and I can't find one of the old ones. My local dealer is an Aprillia dealer but does not stock any. He sells mostly Kymco's, Genuine and Vespa.

Speak of the devil, the CL ad was just posted again today. I am not sure if this violates a rule so if a mod has to take it down, I understand. But here is the ad if someone is trying to find a part for an Aprillia: We are closing out our remaining Aprilia parts (we have not been a dealer for a number of years)
We have a list by part number and application.
I can email you a list in Excel format with part numbers and applications

Before I purchased my Kymco GT300i, I called all three dealers in the New England area. Two said that they were dropping Aprilla outright. That freaked me out a little. Both said parts were a PITA to get (especially in the summer months), so I went ahead with the Kymco.

No problems at my local dealer in St. Petersburg, Florida. AF1 Racing in New Brunsfield, Texas has plenty of parts available too. Just about to hit 12,000 trouble free miles on mine. It is now time to replace the original front tire, belt and rollers along with do the seccond regularly scheduled oil change.
Bikes are currently $2,999 for the left over 2009's and for $100 more I added a sport fairing which makes 70+ mph highway touring musch easier on you.
