Hi there, I'm looking to get a scooter for commuting. I was looking long and hard at the Vespa LX 150, but then I found this place: iheartscooters.com/Now, I'm assuming these are Chinese scoots based on the price alone. But the thing is, I can't figure out who makes them. I don't necessarily have a problem with a Chinese scooter, I just want to get one that has a good reputation. So I've got a few questions. - Has anybody dealt with these guys? (longshot, because they're pretty new) - What do you think about a place that makes these kind of claims? (12 month warranty, upgraded air filter & plugs, working relationship with local mechanic) - Does anybody recognize the make of these scoots? I'm looking at either the "Hog" or the "Persons" models. I can't find anything about these anywhere else, so I'm guessing they're re-badged. Does this seem like a legit place to anybody else? I'm planning on going there this weekend, so any advice you guys would have in regards to things I should look for would be sweet. I'd love to buy local, and if I can get something in this price range I won't have to finance it, which is a big plus. Thanks in advance! Anxious to get one and ride!

While you're there, flip up a seat and note the name of the factory on the VIN plate. Then we can tell you the reputation of the scoot...

If it's a SunL, they'll be out of business right quick with the warranty repairs, since they're offering a 1-year warranty. Of course, who knows the details of the warranty...

I also recognized the "Sicily Style" as a Roketa Sicily. Also overpriced... Still trying to determine what the makes are on the two I'm interested in... I guess my trip down there will answer that though.
Like I said, I'd love to buy local, but this is making me seriously consider ordering from the internet. It doesn't seem like the extra $500 on the price tag is worth the extra warranty, having somebody assemble it, and getting new plugs & filters.

Okay found at least one: "The Hog" is a Ricardo Retro, list price $1250, available online for ~$1000. They're charging $1600...
Well... that settles that.
EDIT: It also looks spot on for a Lance Vintage... which would put it at about the right price. Now I'm confused.

I don't think his prices are too far out of line. You can't compare B&M to online prices. This guy has overhead, it costs over $1000 to the state of Illinois a year for the scrap of paper you hang up saying you are licensed. The liability insurance in the city probably runs another 5k per annum. Throw in rent, phones, internet, utilities, wages etc = a higher priced scooter. And hopefully he will be around to service your scoot & backup the warranty to make it worth you paying more for it.
I'm in the Northwest suburbs, if you want another shop to compare prices with, stop on in.

You have to remember that there are several different factories for every design, so the only way to really find out is to call them and ask, or look at the VIN.

I'm realizing that the more I dig around, but looking closely at these I think they might be SUNL. That's okay, Elgin is closer to me anyway

Hey guys, just found this thread by searching our site, thanks for the mention We actually mostly sell Lance scooters. As you know this is a cali boutique and they only get the best parts in their beasts. They raise prices on us pretty often because of the upgrades they make. The Vintage starts with a feather touch because of the upgraded fuel pump, the Venice rides smooth as butter because of the CARB approved hardware they have to put in them. SunL is ok but it’s day and night compared to Lance's upgrades. As you already know, not all Chinese scooters are created equal. We stick with the high end scooter to save you and us headaches. Sure you’re going to pay just a tad more but you’ll have halogen lights, best carbs and electrical systems on the market. I dare you to tear open a Lance. You’ll be very pleasantly surprised.

Second City used to sell SunL but it appears from the posting above they have switched over to Lance which I'm glad to hear!
I've communicated several times with them via email, and just going based on those, I would feel very comfortable dealing with them.
