Hi Gang... First time to the Dawg Pound.. Have a question for you knowledgable types out there..
Has anyone had any dealings with MX Motorsports.us? We are looking at a scooter from them and wanted to do some research.
The scooter we are looking at is the Roketa MC-54-250B 250cc. Anybody have any words of advice??? Is this a good unit..? Is there anything I need to know about this??
We are not currently into the scooter thing.. But with fuel the way it is, My wife and I are seriously looking into scoot'n.
I have been brousing the message board and it sounds like you guys have a lot of fun and are quick to help out when there is a problem.
Look forward to talkin' with you all..

Has anyone had any dealings with MX Motorsports.us? No experience . . just some comments. Per website . . "For over 3 years, MxMotorsports has been dedicated to supplying atvs, dirt bikes, go karts, scooters and mopeds to powersports enthusiasts in the US." . . . . "Come see and experience why we’re the #1 online dealer delivering top quality motor sports vehicles." . . yet no BBB history on domain URL or phone numbers?? The website "9050 Dupont Pl, Wellington,FL 33414" address appears to be located in a residential area. Perhaps just an order taker affiliated with several drop shipping warehouses.

Hi Dougster,
Welcome to the Dawg Pound!
As you can see by my name, I love mine (2nd one)! The first one I had was great. I put over 14K miles on it in a year with little trouble. 4 or 5 small problems that the dealer fixed even out of warranty. It lost a fight with an 18-wheeler!
I have read a bunch of comments regarding the scoot and problems, but before I bought this new one a few months ago, I wanted to stick to the same manufacturer, so I called atv discounter, the people I bought the first one from, and specified that I only wanted a Jonway (name on VIN plate from old scoot). They said no guaranty and I said no go!
About 3 or 4 days later, someone from service (Rob I think) in Dallas called me and said the MC-54-250 Roketa was indeed a Jonway, so I bought it for $1850 delivered.
I have only 500 miles on this new one and no problems yet except for the speedo stopped working. No biggie, I sent it back and they sent me a new instrument cluster.
Oh yeah, the dash speaker wire for the radio got cut by the front forks the first day, but that was my fault for wanting to take it for a spin w/o prepping it first. 2 crimp connectors and a bit of heat shrink solved the problem in about 3 minutes. Went on to twist tie all the loose wiring and check all the prep work.
I'm a little bummed right now because it's all apart. I'm doing a bunch of mods to it, but it'll be back scootin' soon!
Oh, and finally, the seat sucks! Comfortable, but angled forward, so whenever I hit a bump, I slide forward. Could be my big a**, since my son says it doesn't happen to him (he's 175 and I am 260), but I had to mod both seats to a custom fit to resolve this.
Not a problem for me, because I change the seat cover anyway, so it was just a little removal/replacement and grinding of the foam to solve the problem.
I won't say, yes absolutely buy it, but for me, the Jonway has given perfect service. We'll see when I get to the next one. You know what they say, three's a charm!

Dougster; Welcome to the Dawg Pound!
The MC-54 is a neat body style, a copy of a Honda. Those sold here come with either a 244cc CFMoto/Honda style engine and drive train or a 257cc Linhai/Yamaha style engine and drive train. The 244cc version has low profile 13" tires and, I believe, a slightly longer wheelbase. The 257cc version has higher profile 12" tires. Both engines appear to be good, durable units. I have had one of each in different body styled scoots. The Linhai 257cc engine might have slightly more torque.
Don't get a 250cc scoot expecting it to be an Interstate cruiser. While they may do 70-75 mph, that would be flat out and with nothing left. If you need that type of cruiser, go with a name brand Japanese 400cc scoot. You also want larger tires for stability when cruising at high speed.
Expect gas mileage to be in the 60 mpg range. Depends on how you ride and the terrain in your area. You may get more, or less. Half of what you see listed and are told by some "Dealers" is incorrect and the other half highly suspect! Don't believe any of it until you see it for yourself.

Mine last one cruised nicely at 65, topped of at 77 (GPS reading, speedo said 82), but I stick mostly to 45mph roads to go back and forth to work. I have never cruised at 70 for more than an hour, but it seems to take the speed okay (engine wise), although a little susceptible to bumps though with the 13" tires! Gotta slow down when you see them coming, cause they will throw you if you're not careful.
I usually cruise at 55-60 if I have to go on the highway, but if it's the Interstate, and here the limit is 70, everyone does 80, so it can be dangerous for a scoot. I try and stay off both if I can.
As far as MPG, on my first 250, I was getting 54 during the break-in, then about 59 after that. On this new 2007 I just got, it's hard to tell, first tank was 69, second was 71, but its only got 440 miles on it so far. Seems like a rather large variance since they are clones.
I haven't checked the speed on the new one with the GPS yet, but I did run it up a few times doing the hard break-in on my way home on a country highway, and it went over 70 with no problem.

Thanks All... The scooter we're looking at is the 250B (with the Yamaha style engine). We are not planning on any interstate driving... A little too crazy here for that. We want a good little commuter that will stay on the back roads. (Maybe use it for a little fun as well..) Thanks for the tips, and I'll visit the pound often to get tips and ideas, and to post any issues with the scooter we end up with.
Laterz all... Dougster

Yeah...I looked around Boise.. dealerships want "suggested retail" price.. They can't compete with the online stores..
Took the plunge and ordered a MC-54-250B Roketa from MXMotorsports.us Ordered it on Friday evening.... Supposed to ship on Monday with a 2 day lead time to Boise.. Will let you all know how things went.. and will take pictures as well. (Found that information useful in the past...)
Wish me luck... Dougster

Well...I gotta say that MXMotorsports.us gets an A+ in my book. I ordered a Roketa MC-54-250B from them on Friday Evening, they shipped it on Monday and I recieved it on Thursday. Contacted Rick at MXMotorsports and requested the MCO. Have to wait and see how long it takes to get here. Crate was in presteen condition and the scooter was as ordered. No problems at all. Took about an hour to get it together and get it running.
Anything I should know about break-in times or changing out the fluids??? Looking forward to getting out on the road...
Thanks bunches... Dougster

Dougster; Congratulations! Many times the MCO takes a week or so. Some have lucked out, receiving theirs almost immediately.
Opinions on break in are varied. Some prefer the hard and fast method, others the slow and easy method. IMHO, the most important thing is to vary the speed, not holding any one speed for a long time. Let off the throttle periodically while cruising. This allows oil to be pulled up past the rings to keep lubrication proper during seating of the rings. Don't run WOT or try to set any land speed records. Do this for the first 1,000 miles and you will be OK.
Linhai, the manufacturer of your engine, as well as Roketa, recommends 15W40 diesel grade oil. This type of oil is formulated for hard working diesel AND GAS engines. Has more anti-wear additives than the new energy conserving auto oils. If it is to be kept outside or in an unheated area, don't know if 15W40 will be a little thick for starting below freezing. Change the oil by 100 miles so you know you have quality oil in the engine. Then a couple of times again before 1,000 miles. At 1,000 miles it will be about broken in. You could then use synthetic oil if you wish. The diesel version is 5W40. You can buy Shell Rotella at Walmart in both regular, Dino version as well as synthetic version. I have the 300 cc version of your engine and use the diesel grade oil in that. Have used it in all my scoots, from 50 cc on up to this one. One thing I like about the Linhai engine is that it uses about twice the amount of oil of the CFMoto Honda cloned engine. Change oil once every year or 1,000 miles and you will not need to worry about your engine.
Change out the gear oil, also. Use regular or synthetic 75W90 or 80W90. Change it again at 1,000 miles. After that it is good for every 3,000 miles. Gear oil doesn't suffer the same heat, stress and contaminants as does engine oil.
I would also drain, flush with clear water and refill the coolant. Chinese coolant often doesn't seem to have much in the way of corrosion inhibitors. My preference is Zerex G-05. Can be purchased at Auto Zone. This is a high quality coolant specifically formulated to reduce internal cooling system damage to engines. Was originally formulated for Mercedes in the 1980s and one form or another is used by many Euro manufacturers.
Good luck and keep us informed.

Well there you go! Scoterollie is right on the money on all points! I use the hard break in method for at least the first 50 miles, after that, fluctuation in your RPMs as SO described is necessary for the first 500-1000 miles. Follow SO's advice and you're in the money!

The method suggested by most of those Chinglish manuals is totally insane. Most of them suggest that you keep your speed below 25 MPH for the first 500 miles. I have broken in all my demo scooters using the hard and fast way and havae had great luck with it.

just looked at the info you linked.... then went to bbb and logged in with my moms busines acct. most of the noise for mx mos is from one guys. there are a couple of legitimate complaints , but like 15 instances stemmed from one guy who wanted full refund even though he agreed to terms of sale.
leery yes, completely out of the pic with a little more info... not yet.

If you know someone who can access the "private" info... take advantage........ it's so much easier to see what the "grips are".
I'm still looking, and undecided.

I just got my Bali 150 from rick at mxmotorsports. After phone order I didn't hear back with freight reciept as promised so called. He said the one I ordered was out of stock (viva) so while on the phone called around and found the Bali. I got the frieght reciept but when checking the tracking showed no pickup of scoot after 2 days. Called again and Rick got on the phone again looking for any other brand touring bike. I got impatient and asked for refund to which he agreed. After a week I saw no refund on my card, but then got a call from the frieght company saying they had the scoot and wanted to schedule delivery. Big run around but I did get my scoot and Rick did always answer the phone. The guy does have the cheapest prices and must be crazy busy.
He must be a drop shipper. He is in FL and my scoot came from the warehouse in CA. I must say that the bike came in perfect condition and with more than advertised. It had the radio/mp3 (which is really only useful when working on the bike in the garage) and an alarm and it is a 2008 model. Overall, I have to give Rick a thumbs up even though it is a pain to deal with a drop shipper. I have no clue on service after the sale but when I replace parts I will be upgrading for the most part so am not too concerned.

I just got my scoot from them....When I decided to buy a scoot, they seem to have one of the best prices on the net..I called them first, they gave me another $40.00 off the Roketa MC-23..Total price $1059.00 shipped to my house for a 150cc scoot...I ordered it on Tuesday and received it 8 days later...Still waiting for MSO, it will be 1 week this Friday 05/30...Only issue is he never sent e-mail about shipping from California, but when I asked 2 days later by e-mail, he promptly replied with the shipping info and it was sent the day before.
Recommended them to my buddy and and he got a Roketa Fija for $999.00 shipped to his house, he got $100 knocked off internet price. He still has not receive his scoot, only been 6 days though..
So far no complaints with them. I suggest you call first and make sure item is in stock and ships right away and work on more discount...hahahahaah

I called Rick at MX on Saturday with a couple of outstanding questions I had and he said I should have a ship confirmation by Monday. Sunday evening (24 hours after ordering online) I received a shipping statement. So far so good - just wish they didn't ship using Estes. Ordered Roketa MC-54-250, Rick did mention the "B" version popularity and that there was a few days wait if I had wanted that version.

Just got this e-mail this evening... "We do not have any more MC-54-250 they were sold out but we did get new MC-54B-250 there is a small price difference but it is better bike has the Yamaha Lithium motor bigger rear trunk and better radio please let me know we will ship to you fast there will only be $100 difference!" I replied asking when the next shipment will arrive. I'm guessing all drop shippers are now out of this model.

;DHi all - my husband and I are looking to buy our daughter a scooter for her 16th birthday (gas, insurance etc just cheaper on a scooter, plus we live in AZ so the weather is perfect here for riding). We are looking to purchase from MX Motorsports, thinking about a Roketa Bali 250cc. Anyone have any thougths or experience with this bike. From what I've read here they seem to be a reputable dealer...I keep seeing where people called and ordered and they got an even better deal...can I get some info on that please.

Just something for you to think about - I have a scoot comparable in size to the Bali and my girlfriends 16 year old daughter can barely hold it up. I would suggest taking her to a dealer and let her try it on for size before making any commitment.

Frannie,
Think really hard about the 250!
It's hevy as all get out. As a 200+lb. woman, I have to "watch it" when I handle this thing. If you have a place you can go and look at them , make sure you do. I went to our local BMW shop and tried out the piaggio scooters for size. Putting it on the center stand is not that bad, but it is a heavy bike.
Just make sure you know your girls strength before you buy. Other wise....... go for it. I woulda killed to have one of these in high school!

I called today and Rick answered as usual, he informed me that both models are now available and should ship out this coming Wednesday. I decided to pay an additional $100 and "upgrade" to the B for two reasons... Easier access to carb for adjustment and as Scooterollie mentioned - twice the oil capacity. The second big reason other than access to the carb is the storage space. I figure the 4" difference in the wheelbase is minimal and the fact that the scoot vibrates more with the Yamaha inspired motor does not phase me in the least. The radiator placement is a plus as well.
I will keep everyone updated as to how the transaction plays out.
