Sym is supposedly in the same League as Daelim and possibly Kymco. Quality machines. If you can afford it don't hesitate to get one. Prices are sure to be at least twice that of Strada for a comparible machine.

SYM is out of Taiwan and is reputed to be on level with Kymco and is well respected.

The most popular scooters here in Taiwan are: 1-Kymco, 2-Sym, 3-Yamaha, 4-Suzuki. This is my opinion by observing all the scooters parked around for the last 7 years.
I believe Kymco and Sym run pretty close together in popularity, quality, etc.

Thanks for the input guys. I figured that someone here would have an answer. I usually like to do business with someone who has reliability, parts and service. There are just so many old brands and new ones to choose from. Most look like clones from another brand and rebranded again.

The only worry with SYM right now, is Carter Brothers is just getting started with importing them, we're talking maybe 2 months so far, and did it as they wanted to carry SYM ATVs, and SYM required them to import both, so one has to wonder about parts availability and support for the scoots. Time will tell, but as has been said, they're basically equal to KYMCo and have some interesting models www.sym.com.tw/eng/index.php# Rumor has it that the Mio will soon be offered here. Personally I want a cub, I like that style better, and nobody imports anything like that into the US.

I spoke to Carter bros and tried to become an importer of the scoots but they are not allowing anybody else to bring in containers. they want to have a lock on the brand in the states it seems.

just heard from a freind that dealers can now order SYM GTS 250. should be real interseting to see if they will be as good as the hype says. might be serious competition for the Kymco Granvista for less money.

Mike, I don't know where you are located, but don't be afraid to handle pricey things if they are of great quality. Building quality products takes money. All the Tank owners of today will be shopping SYM and Vespa tomorrow. ;D

We just got an HD 200 and all I can say is Wow! The style and ride is a lot like the famous Pegasus but you can really feel the quality difference in little things like the suspension and plastics. The storage on the HD is a lot smaller then the Pegasus which I was disappointed in but the 4 valve head adds a very smooth very powerful engine that is hard to beat. But it really is only a 171.2cc so the 30cc rounding is a little funny but it is a great scoot. We just picked up a demo model from our SYM Rep last week so if anyone is interested let us know.
Thanks, Jake Scoot N' Powersports Idaho Falls, ID

That's where I got my HD200. The place is a virtual madhouse, but in a good way. I was in and out in 30 minutes, plates and all:) Ken is a nice guy both in person and on the phone.

We "were" a dealer for SYM through Carter and I can say the SYM build quality is very nice, However the 50cc models were very SLOW, 30mph in stock config. We were able to see 45mph with a Jet Euro after Pipe and carb tuning. Also, SYM has a goofy kickstand that is spring loaded and your will drop the scoot at least once a week. We decided to drop the SYM scooter for another brand due to the reasons above and due to the way Carter operates its scooter biz. I'll leave it at that. Just don't believe all the hype test ride comp's before you buy IMO.

Well, I have had the HD200 for 2 months now and all I can say is, believe the hype! Do your research and test drive one and you'll be hooked. The comparison between Kymco and SYM is a marketing comparison, and yes, they run neck and neck in Taiwan in SALES, but the SYM is a far better scoot in my opinion. Kymco's don't even come close mechanically speaking.
Check the mechanical specs instead of the sales hype. Also, look at the service records. SYM has some dealers that have never had a service call on these scoots! They are A1 when it comes to quality control.
I personally chose one because of the ceramic coated 4-valve head and the bore and stroke. They outperform Kymco hands down, not to mention that gawd awful brake squeal! When will Kym address this problem??
Yup, they're relatively new to the market here in the US, but they are playing it right. So yeah, maybe there's some growing pains with stock and parts, but Kym is no better. I know my local Kym dealer is out of Kyms and having a real hard time getting parts too.
I have faith in SYM's product and I trust Robert and the team in AL to get over the growing pains.

finally got my mitts on a rv250 over at scooterworks in chicago and as soon as i sat on it i almost had an orgasm. what a sweet scooter. they are going for $4500 and change but i must say that this ride is well worth it and i think i really have to do some serious soul searching before i mortgage my life for a burgman400 over a sym. 150cc more at $10 a cc . i dont really need the extra power or weight so i'll ride my tank tourer into the ground this year and make my easter present a sym!
