I am trying a cheap mod to my stock muffler. So far it seems to help. I know it's starving for gas at mid to high speed. Yes, I'm looking for bigger jets. What I did was drill the rivets out on the outlet and remove the end cap. Cut off the down turn on the way too small outlet pipe. Drilled five 5/16" holes around the outlet. Put the end cap back on. Much more felt exhaust now coming out. A little louder, but a nice deep low tone. I may try welding some of the holes to try and make it a little quieter. I may have gotten carried away drilling to many holes. I know it's helping because the speed up my hill is now 30mph. It was 25mph before. I think with bigger jets it may get better. Give it a try, it cost nothing.

I did a similar trick on my UM-150 but I left the downturned pipe there. I drilled 4 each 3/8 holes around the pipe. The exhaust that then came straight out the back helped turn my propeller.

i did the same to my scooter...i put 3 right where the exhaust comes out...but anyways...you can just put screws in the holes with lock washers instead of welding them back in..this way is quick and easy...and works just fine

if you drill through the inner baffle it may sound like a straight pipe. at least mine did.

I tried drilling a hole in the end of my muffler but it ended up being way too loud and I didn't notice any performance gains so I pluged the hole with a bolt. I guess a 250 is probably a lot louder than the smaller scooters out there. That is one of the nice things about this mod though, it is reversable! Maybe if I deced to re-jet and upgrade my intake I will take the bolt out and get some performance gain.
