I was playing with the scooter today. Just to see what it would do, I took off the air box. Lots more power, but lots more noise too. Is there anyway to keep the noise down with those open air filters? (I'm thinking not). Is there a way to make the air box breath as well as an open air filter without the noise? I know I need to change the jets when I free up the intake. RS4i QMB 50cc.

Remove the restrictor inside the airbox, it's known as the snorkel. That will help. Sounds like you are either in a hot climate or high altitude. What is your elevatio and or temp. there?

That's the one I took off. I also took off the inlet. Still worked much better without any air filter. I won a open air filter on ebay. I'll try it and see how much more noise it makes. Any suggestions on what size jets to try, and where I can get them? To Fritz- Have you dealt with the guys at The Moped Company? They helped me out testing my coil and CDI. Seemed like good guys.

The Moped Company? Nice people but they are into 2-strokes mostly. I got a jet at Glenn's Cycle Supply in Kaimuki. It was the only place on the island I could find that had them. I got a #90 and it luckily worked quite well. It was the only size they had. It is frustrating how hard it is to find jets. I ordered some on line and wasted 20$ on the wrong jets. Wish there was a store that had a nice selection of high and low speed jets that you could compare with the original. Glenn's had no low speed jets.
Is your bike used? Sounds like someone already did some modifications if it runs with the airbox open.

Hi Fritz, Got the scooter used. Wasn't running when I got it, so I got it for a good price. The CDI was dead, carb was all plugged up, gas was really old, plug was bad, battery was dead. Moped Company was the only ones that would test the CDI and coil for me, so I got all the parts from them. Someone may have worked on it, but I don't think they did much. The needle was in the middle and the plug was one of those Chinese ones. It runs without the air box, but it is starving for gas. Long time ago, when I used to ride bikes, I bought a few parts from Glenn's. I'll call him to see what he's got.
