I was looking at this kit and trying to understand how a couple of the parts function or are used: www.partsforscooters.com/169-11?category=1One round like part in the photo looks like it has a special wrench that is used to loosen or tighten it. The hexagonal shaped part has two fittings and fins on it. Is the one that the wrench is used on go into where the oil drain plug used to go? And is the other part a thermo-sensitive switch used to bypass the cooler when the oil is not hot enough? Thanks Earl

hey earl, I have that kit installed on my scoot. It really works well. Your right side bottom drain plug is replaced with the round plug and seal this is where the oil is pulled from the crank case through the oil cooler and back to the oil pump. The oil is sucked by the oil pump pick through the cooling curcuit ( meaning the oil is NOT under positive pressure). the hexagonal housing is where the oil screen/filter is installed and this piece is mounted in the oil line before the oil cooler. As I said, the system works very well at keeping oil temps down. Under 160F running and 180F resting. Its worth it if you live in a hot climate

I mounted it low in the body work right behind the front wheel

Does it come with an electric fan? if not would it Make any difference to run one?

Iwas looking at possably getting one of these, but my dad thinks that it would be useless I live in Southern California so it is pretty warm here most of the time (he says three months/year, actually about 7). My dad said "look at the older bikes, they are like 750+cc and they're air cooled, so why would a 150cc need any sort of cooler." My dad is no mechanic (only basic maint.) so I am wondering if there would be a benefit FOR ME to add and oil cooler? Sorry for a bit of a rant... Aero

It is all a personal choice, and how much you ride it hard. If you are riding hard for longer periods of time, cooler engine oil with help you on wear a bit. If it is just quick trips in your area, say under 10 to 15 miles each way. save your money for something else. Also a properly tempatured engine will get better gas mileage than a cooler one or a over temped one. That is why your see in most cars operating temperature of 185 to 205. Never much less or much more.

Never much less or much more. Not to be argumentative... The norm used to be around 160* back in the day. Then along came the EPA and emissions control. That is the real reason cars run as hot as they do today. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it's how I recall the change come about.

The majority of my riding will be ~12 miles each way (school/back) with only occasional trips farther (but I really want to do a road trip or 3). The roads are all 45mph+ so I am planning on running close to WOT almost all the time. There are also some hills, but nothing major and I can somewhat avoid them if I have to. Thanks. Aero

If it were me and I had a choice I'd opt for the oil cooler in your case.

Would a cooling fan come with it ? I didn't see one pictured in the kit.. I think I will get one and rig it to a toggle switch. For these long lights I keep getting stuck at...
