I've been eyeing Lee's GY6 owner's manual for a while, but I just can't seem to muster up the guts to buy it. I'm a huge fan of walkthrough/tutorials, and I've written several myself for things I know enough about to share (usually electronics or software development related), complete with pictures when necessary. I love that someone took the time to do it with a GY6 scooter, but I'm uneasy about having to pay for it... User-made tutorials are always great and much more thorough than factory manuals, but I've just never had to pay for one before.
Can anyone here vouch for it being worth the money? And I don't mean Lee... Obviously I'd prefer unbiased opinions please!
Thanks!

It's a rip-off. Stay away from it.

Look at the things it covers and decide whether it would be worth the money for you to have those questions answered all in one place conveniently. Even if you're mechanically inclined it has answers to a number of questions that sooner or later, you'll need the answers to. Having one of those ScootDawg owners manuals would have saved me LOTS of time finding answers, usually one at a time, by searching for them. If you didn't grow up in the day when everyone wrenched what they drove or rode themselves, you probably don't even know the right questions. In that case you absolutely need it!

I hear ya. I'm sure a lot of work went into it, and due to rare nature of these manuals, its clearly worth some money, if not priceless. I'm just going to say one thing... if there is going to be a revision of it and you'd like it to look more professional, let me know first (I'm in the presentation business), and I'd be glad to help out with the graphics and layout. Are those diagrams circled in paintbrush?! Normally I wouldn't care how something looks as long as its effective, but I want it to feel professional if I'm paying for it, ya know?
Anyway, I probably sound like a jerk. I'm sorry, I don't mean to diss anyone's work... ya know what, I'll repost after I've bought it and actually read some of it and maybe I'll be singing a different tune!

It is a great manual (lots of photos) for people who didn't spend weekends growing up wrenching with their dad in the garage on everything from lawnmowers to washing machines. I bought it because I was unfamiliar with scooters, and like dennis, I haven't wasted a lot of time trying to get answers to questions one at a time. Come on "dishe" you tightwad, he's not going to give you one, so buy it.

Dishe that all depends on how many times you say " Oh so thats how its supposed to come apart" after you break something LOL yes its worth it. I admit I dont have it and it cost me a variator face plate and about 2 hours of extra time getting the cam and cam chain in properly. But I like admonishing myself by saying " DUH! so thats how it comes apart" LOL

I bought it along time ago... it could stand to be updated but if you are new to scooters it was helpful for me.. and I'm resonably mechanical. Now I have outgrown it and gave it to the new owner of my old scoot. It is very basic and can help maintain your new scoot but will not show you how to tear down and install a 180cc kit or any of that. But for the money it was worth it.. But I am not unbiased.. I have to suck up to the "Boss"... kidding!

It's exactly what the ad sez...It's the manual that should have come with your scooter. It's not a shop or technical manual, just a generic owners manual with lotsa good info that will help owners of many different brands of scooters. Worth the money. Good luck.

Mike, I couldn't have said it better. It's not a huge investment and it helps keep things on-line and I hope it helps people. Well, I know it does because I get a lot of "thank you" notes. As more of the Chinese brands offer up decent manuals, I will have to find another way to fund things. Hmmmm, I'm gonna have to think up another rip-off scheme. ;D
