Could any of the Big Dawgs help me with what mods I could do for the most bang for buck on a shoestring budget? Please help as I'm one poor dawg.

Rover what do you want from the scoot and what is it? Most effective mods for the money include variator tuning....(lighter weights for better acceleration)$25 or less....Air filter and carb rejet along with modifying stock exhaust to breathe better(drilling holes or cuttin open and freeing it up)$50 or less. See Riker140's thread in 50-80cc board...he's got his 72cc geely over 60 mph with about a $100 out of pocket expense...but his 50 Geely did come 72cc. If you have a 150 the principles will apply. If you can't afford parts for upgrade you must have access to a good workshop to modify what's there. Don't screw with CDI's and coil's and aftermatket exhaust's are expensive. For $100 you can get new variator weights, low restiction air filter, bigger carb jets, and open up your exhaust. Details can be found throughout this site and help can be had just for asking.... After these mods speed comes at a much higher price. Speed is just a question of money...how fast you want to go?(The Road Warrior)

If you do get yourself a big bore upgrade. Please just take your time and read the instruction completely before beginning. Where are you from rover?

ooopseyesharted:I hail from The Big D; Detroit. How about those Tigers! To ACD:I would like to increase top end speed; I purchased a Jmstar 150c.c. touring edition. Purchased it from an Ebay seller; so far the scoot's been pretty good for a Chinese scooter. The acceration has been acceptable, but would like a little more on the top end. Speedometer reads 68-70 mph, but I have not checked it with a GPS unit; so estimating a 10% error; it is probably doing 55-63 mph

Also of all the scooter BBs this one has been the most friendly, and informative. In the short time I have been visiting I have learned more from here then any other BBS. Also ACD I have only low to moderate mechanical skills; I is stupid.

Rover, I always try low budget or no budget mods first. I learned to because of a lack of $$, and enjoy it now for the challenge and the fact that it helps a person get a feel for how a engine works and what mods might return the best bang for the buck on a particular engine. You can get significant gains in acceleration and driveability without spending much, but to get much more in the way of top speed, it usually takes some pricier modifications. I'm about to that point now.
The last thing I did to my scoot was to reinforce the hose from the air box to the carb so it doesn't collapse in the sharp bends. Several radiator hose clamps strategically placed, sort of an exoskeleton, opened that up. I also opened up some of the restrictions in the stock exhaust with a grinder and a cutting wheel on a dremel. I am now to the point where I can go no further without rejetting the carb as the plug reads show a light tan now and there's no more adjustment left on the fuel mixture screw. I still want about 5 mph top end, and know I can't get that just by rejetting, so next year I'll rejet for a performance exhaust system and opened up air intake, well beyond the holes I've drilled in the stock airbox. It's quicker, accelerates more smoothly, and will cruise 4-5 mph below top speed(about 3/4 throttle) in all but fairly extreme conditions now, but with 5 mph more I'll be able to cruise about 2-3 mph faster more easily, and I want a bit of extra top speed besides, just in case I hop onto a road, or get in a situation, where I need a little extra for a couple of miles.

JMstar Touring 150 Ebay. Was it Paylessscooters? Out of New York? I got my Primo there. Scoots are fine but don't expect alot of help from them. They got booted from Ebay for doing the private auction thing so now they are Scooternmotors on Ebay Selling some tiny little 50cc jobs. ACD I have only low to moderate mechanical skills; I is stupid. No your not man your asking questions and trying to learn. That's the first step. Mechanical skills will come with time. You have a great comfortable scoot there. Not being highly mechanical yet will make that one a little bit of a challenge because of the body design. Like if you ever did put an aftermarket exhaust on it you would have to fabricate a rear bracket.. You can modify the exhaust on that scoot and the air filter and the jets. You would probably see a few mph from a Performance clutch assembly like Dr. Pulley. This is not super hard to do. Do you have a good scooter shop near you? Aaron
