Belts wear from the outside edges, so "look narrower and longer to the CVT" as they wear.
Effect of a worn belt on performance will be reduced top speed, AND reduced acceleration off the line.
It's like the low gear has been made higher, and the high gear has been made lower.
It doesn't take much wear to make a noticeable difference in performance. Something to check if your ride just doesn't seem up to par.

I'm guessing you mean all you can find is the 835-20-30 which is supposedly the replacement for the 842. A new 835 increases speed at every RPM and while this might sound good it has a slightly negative effect on acceleration from a stop. Because the belt cannot ride as high in the secondary pulley, you loose "first gear". Have you tried www.powersportsfactory.com or www.oregonvintage.com ?

Has anyone ever had a GY6 belt completely desintigrate? Had a belt about 2 years old just do that. The cords inside were completely unraveled.

It's alot of guys with 50cc Boatian brand scoots in Sweden that get that total destruction of the belt.. But they do put in 4g to 5g rollers and revv the hell out theire scoots..
Mine have gone 1000 km now, and i cant messure any wear on my stock belt yet.

I took the cover off My Roketa Figi150cc today and checked the belt is is a 835-20 Gates powerflex belt. i wasn't aware that gates furnished belts to Roketa or Motofina th mfg. of my engine...or did I just luck out.. the belt showed no wear but i've only got 300 miles on it It also has a NGK plug.

cathouse; We have been finding better quality Gates and Bando brand belts on the Chinese scoots lately. Perhaps some of the importers are specifying better quality components such as belts and spark plugs.

In my linhai 50cc it took 4500 km for the belt to completly disapear in little desintegrated parts... Otherwise i bought a kymco longer belt (they didn't have the good one) and put a 125cc clutch (bigger diameter) and since i have more power and low speed and +5 km/h a good deal you can look at the pict of the parts here swakkanobi.free.fr/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?viewmode=thread&topic_id=197&forum=7&post_id=642#642you can see a variator in the bottom right it's the one i wanted to put but i have some problem of diameter for the inner part :-(

I exploded 3 belts in about 2500 miles on a Geely 50cc 4 stroke, all Fulong brand. I finally found a Gates, and it is going strong.

That's weird, I have over 8K miles on the original CVT Belt!!! Already purchased a kevlar one, but I want to see how much that one can take.
