figured i would try and contribute with all my questions. If you are one to fiddle with your tranny a lot with clutch springs and/or vairator weights, instead of having to buy gasket after gasket simply use some orange RTV sealant. DO NOT USE THE BLACK. I used to work for a tranny and rear end shop and we never bothered with rear end gaskets. They always were notorious for leaks. Since the CVT cover doesn't have anything to "leak" perse there really is no need for a normal gasket. All you need is some RTV sealant and a clean service for it to adher too. Spread some around the cover and attach the cover WITHOUT the bolts. let it sit for 5-10minutes and tighten the cover. Make sure that when each time you remove/reattach the cover you have to clean off all the sealant. A buffer wheel works best. We did this on rear ends for YEAAARS and very rarely did we have one leak. So it should be fine for a scoot

Actually, you don't even need a gasket for the tranny cover. There is nothing to seal in or out. The cover has a huge breather hole that will let more crap in than you could possibly suffer from lack of gasket.

Here is an alternative for those that want a gasket. Lay out some wax paper on a flat surface, clean the mating surface of the cover with lacquer thinner. Run a small bead of silicone around the mating surface and carefully set the cover (silicone down) on the wax paper, but don't push down on it. Use a toothpick to "trace" around the cover where any excess silicone squeezes out. Now let it cure over night. When you lift it off, you have a flat gasket bonded to the cover and the excess will peel right off from the toothpick tracing. It will wast for years. The first time that I pulled the tranny cover on my scoot I thought I didn't need the gasket either, but it developed a rattle only at one range of rpms. Very irritating and made mu scoot sound "cheap"

Great idea Stan, My neighbor removed the tranny cover on his GY6 scoot to check the belt at 900 km and ruined the gasket. I tried your wax paper trick and it worked better than the gasket that I spent an hour making from scratch. What an idea, you should be paid for your knowledge thanks, ryan.
