I had a car switch lanes right in front of me yesterday on the way home from work. It seems she wasn't content with the leisurely pace in her lane & decided to take over my space without bothering to look first. Good thing I always try to look out for people like this........I was doing about 40mph when this occured & she was doing about 5mph. I was in the right lane & she was in the left lane on a 4-lane road. I was passing on the right side of my lane, so I didn't have to panic, but I hit the brakes hard & moved to the right edge of the road (plenty of room). Hit my horn as I came up on her right side (almost past her). Tried to pull my stomach out of my throat & proceeded to pull up next to her at the next light.
She rolled her window down & apologized right away (which I thought was pretty cool). She looked seriously stressed & freaked out (I think I scared the crap out of her when I blasted my horn). She said she didn't see me at all to which I responded "I understand, but you would have if you lane checked over her right shoulder". She agreed & said she should have seen me & didn't have any excuse especially as she pointed out that my scoot was yellow & I was wearing my yellow HJC helmet & yellow riding jacket.
I was quite appreciative of her apology & told her I wasn't upset, she just gave me a scare (I really wasn't mad) Besides, I consider myself invisible to cars & have to expect it. Anyways, she truly expressed that she would try to keep an eye out for motorcycles & we told each other to have a good day as we parted.
Anyways, just wanted to remind everyone to look out, especially when your passing another line of slow moving cars. A fast lane will always suck slow cars into it. Also, keep cool if you do get a chance to talk with someone that tries to kill you. I know it's difficult, but I think it's better to educate than to just yell at them.
Stay alive out there & keep your wits about ya!
