Hi y'all,
I was raised on late 70's 2-stroke rice-burners. I have a special fondness for them and always will. (I cannot forget my first of many stupid stunts that ended in major road rash & basically major embarrassment!) I've ridden just about everything & now that I am officially a middle aged fart I want one bike that has it all, comfort, enough ponies to make you grin & enough protection to stay dry and comfy. I fell in love w/the Tmax the first time I saw it, I even loved it more the first time I rode it. Finally after saving up all my "toys" money I have about 7K which allows for just about anything in good used condition. I am torn between a Harley and the Tmax. The Tmax has more of what I want but I am unsure of a couple of things that are not issues w/any Harley cuz they always keep their value, more or less.(I am anal-retentive w/preventive maintenance!!)
OK, sorry for the long story, just needed to paint ya my picture.
Here are my concerns over the Tmax and I would appreciate all and any info everybody wants to throw in, good/bad just be honest
Longevity: the Tmax was only made for 3 years (plus Canada w/535)
I'm worried about how long parts will be available and/or the Tmax becomes obsolete.(I believe it has a strong following which may keep it going???)
1. What is the highest mileage anybody has heard these things can go before needing a full rebuild? (good maintenance & sensible driving are a given) Could it go 100K w/excellent maintenance? On the same note, what ya guys figure a realistic life-span for these things? That's were Harleys got an edge, you just keep re-building them w/upgrades.
2. Can I trust a Tmax to cross country riding it sensibly? What's the longest trip anybody has taken w/theirs?
3. Finally the "cool factor" We all know Tmaxs can rock when driven hard. But do ya guys thing the general public (as in chicks get a first impression that these are for girl thingys? (Until they actually ride one and find out how comfortable they are versus the vibrating, tiny hard-seated Harleys, or maybe that is why chicks dig them, they're basically a 450 pound vibrator!!!) So I guess I could have simply asked: Tmax vs. Harley...pros and cons?? I warned ya I was anal-retentive! ;D ;D
Peace, ride hard, live longer, boulonman
