2 part question....

So i was intrigued by the Linhai thread until it turned into a troll fest and guys throwing feces at each other left and right, so i decided to start a new thread to ask some simple questions.

Let me start off by saying im sorry in advance if there is a thread already existing about the topic.

My back story......6'1" 270 lbs needs a scooter to go no faster than 55, zero desire to do highway cruising, and ive done some online research, but id rather hear it from the horses mouths so to speak.

I started off a few weeks ago by looking into 50cc, as a fun option, then said my fat butt would only get to about 20mph and that wouldnt even be fun, so i then started looking into 150cc and i know i can get probably 45ish if im lucky but tbh i havent even seen a model i like and this includes all the major players, honda, yamaha sym, piagio etc... so i figured why not a 250cc + sized scooter. i did some research prior to the Linhai debacle debate of Linhai vs Burgman in the now useless thread and like the style, ive seen them up close and honestly have no desire to spend more than 4k on my 1st scooter. It looks from what ive seen up close and read about to be a good starter scoot. Now with that being said can i get some honest input on other models with do it your self maintenance and trustworthy components or upgrades that does not involve a pissing match please? That is what these forums are for after all at least thats what i was hoping for when i joined.

2nd part of my questions is someone mentioned this being the last week of the forums ? can i get some details on that as well?

For your weight and the speed that you would traveling a 250cc is more than enough. The 250s can cruise 60-65 with no problems. Most can get up to 70+mph so at 55-60mph the motor will just be purring and not overtaxed at all.

Of the Chinese scooters on the market, Linhai, and another would be the Puma Apollo 250. Now the thing you should know is, the Znen 250 (which is what it really is) Has had issues with it. I have one and did a rather extensive rebuild on it (of course I may have gone just a teensy-weensy bit overboard with my own QC...Ok, way over.) Having said that, Puma's customer service is beyond first rate and if I were looking for a Chinese 250 scoot, it would be in the top contenders list.

Outside of the Znen, I'd think pre-owned Japanese or Italian scooter. These three are all 250cc class scooters for less than $3,000 with Japanese reliability.

I'm six feet tall and weigh around 250lbs and my 63cc scoot cruises at 35 with a top speed just over 40. I think you're overestimating your weight or underestimating the ccs. you also have to take into consideration the restrictions on some 49cc scooters; some are actually restricted to prevent them from going over 30mph, so it's possible you could go anywhere from 35-40mph on a stock 49cc. Multiply that by three and you get some totally irrelevant number. But, in any case a 100cc should get you to a max of around 55, then a 150cc should get you to around the max speed you're asking for. Then the 250cc goes 70+ (as stated by Lefty), etc.

If I'm not mistaken you may want to settle for a chinese 150cc to save some money, unless you find a good 250 for cheaper somehow.

My Znen 150 could hit 55mph easily, but that is a constant strain on the engine. If you're going to be riding 55mph two-lane highways, you're gonna want to be able to cruise at 60mph while staying under max RPMs. I think it is smart to buy the most scooter you can afford because you'll never know when you'll need that extra power for accident avoidance and such.

I am a little partial to the Morphous since I have one. I also had a Helix for 18 years. The Morphous has fuel injection while the 2 Hondas don't. The 3 Japanese scooters are all good choices.

The one thing I'm worried about concerning the Linhai is part (as in body panel) availability since it appears that linhai in no longer carrying (at least on their website) the 260 or 300.
