I just installed a new variator with 23g sliders, and a new clutch assembly with the blue (softest) contra spring from Buggy Parts NW.
This combo didn't workout quite well. 0-20mph acceleration is quite slow with much shuddering. It seems to be starting out in too high a gear. 20mph and up, acceleration is very good.
I need to take it apart again and make sure the sliders are still in the correct position. If they check out, I'll reinstall the factory contra spring.

Well, I took it apart again. The variator is working properly, but the clutch is not. I reinstalled the spring that came with the clutch, yet the belt does not move up and down the rear pulley all that much.

What color Clutch springs did the Clutch come with, If they are colored I would put in the old springs from the old clutch. To get a heavy scoot to throw out the clutch pads and grab the bell at low rpms to cruise at low speeds you need the weakest Clutch Pad Springs so it doesn't shudder(slipping). Lefty

I'll try switching those springs. I didn't even think about that before. I reinstalled the stiffer contra spring to hold it in low gear longer.

Problem fixed. It was the slider weights in the variator. One was out of position and got damaged. I installed regular rollers and it works great now.
