I just came across an article about this new scooter from SYM this morning. Has anyone else heard? Will it come to the U.S.?
Will likely beat the prices of the other 400s in the U.S. if it comes, because our 400s are from premium brands and an expensive MP3 from Piaggio. The price in AU$ for the MaxSYM is listed @ $7990 but I don't know how that translates to a U.S. price.

SYm does not quite have the strong network here that they should. Sym is a good brand, but a warehouse fire of the previous importer put them out of business and set them back here a bit. Their older RV250's are great machines. From what I have read about the MaxSym is that it is a bit on the heavy side and the ride is not considered "sporty". I don't think Sym sells anything here over 200cc's right now and I think those are even 171cc engines. There are so many other options like a Burgman, Majesty and others it is doubtful it will ever come here. It would also have to compete with some smaller CC bikes like the one I bought. Sym's 300 Evo might be a better bet for this market but that is just my opinion. If they decide to expand their offerings here the Sym Wolf 250 motorcycle would be my choice.

I believe that I read that it may come here next year. I have a 2008 RV-250 and I love it, but I would upgrade to this if it was offered. Lots of people would like to have it. As was previously stated, the fire messed things up for quite awhile, but Alliance is getting a hand on things. They are trying to get more dealerships across America. Several stopped carrying SYM because of bad experiences with Carter Brothers and especially after the fire, it was all but impossible to get what was needed with no distributor here. Alliance has come a long way and given time, I believe SYM could become well established here...especially with the good reputation of the bikes and the gas going up all the time! I do believe the 400 will show up on our shores before long...well, maybe next year.

I don't think Sym sells anything here over 200cc's right now and I think those are even 171cc engines. Yes. They now sell the Sym CityCom 300i, but it has trouble stepping up to compete with the Piaggio BV350 and Kymco People 300i from a performance basis, because it is both heavier and has 12 and 8 less horsepower, respectively than the BV and People. The reason for less hp is that they've mated the CityCom with a 263 cc engine, whereas the Kymco is a true 300 and the BV is a 330. Where Sym really shines though is in build quality, warranty and price as compared to Kymco and Piaggio. The CityCom comes in at $4600 against the People @ $5399, and the BV350 @ $5699. The article I once read states that Sym produces a true 300 cc motor, so it's confusing why they chose the under powered 263. The reason I would like to see the SymMax here is that my ideal next scooter would be a little larger, a little more displacement, but I'd like to stay in the same price range and not lose too much with regards to mpg as compared to my BV350. Since Sym comes here with much lower prices, and they're US distribution seems to be now pretty solid, I'm interested in the SymMax. My only dislike about Sym products is their curb weight as compared to the competitors. I'm not sure what it is about their designs, but they always come in heavier than Kymco, Piaggio, etc., which hurts them with regards to power-to-weight ratio.

I've suddenly lost interest. I looked up the exchange rate. US and AU dollars are roughly equal. If the SymMax comes to the States and it's $8000, then it's more expensive than the Burgman 400 and Majesty.
My thinking was that if the SymMax came here and had a blow out price of around $6K, which would be comparable to the CityCom @ $4600, then that would be something I'd be interested in.
Also, if Sym brought a 400 here at a price way, way under the price of the Majesty and Burgman, which is what I would have expected based on the price of the CityCom 300i, it wouldn't really compete with them; it would blow them out!

The article I once read states that Sym produces a true 300 cc motor, so it's confusing why they chose the under powered 263. . While I would not put down the Sym brand, I am not sure what the first sentence means. If you believe Kymco is inferior in build quality or warranty to Sym, I think you might be misinformed. The Kymco warranty is 2 years, and they are nothing but solid, long lasting, well constructed machines. Not sure about any real price comparisons because generally Sym vs Kymco products are not always apples to apples. The Sym 200's are pretty comparable to the (much uglier) Kymco Yager, but comparing the cheaper 263cc to the more expensive 300 cc is not fair due to the power difference. I think the Sym, Piaggio and Kymco brands are all top notch scooters, but you will pay more for engine size and power level. Kymco has a 400cc Xciting and MyRoad 700cc that are not in this market I would guess factoring in what they would have to charge for them and still attract buyers from Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda. Even though the Kymco website says the MyRoad 700 was "designed with the american market in mind" I still see no mention that they are every bringing it here. I am happy with my choice but would have loved to have had the option to cross shop the Evo300 when I bought just because I love the way it looks. I hope it does well, but when I bought a year ago there were still several new 2009 RV250's at several dealers around the country. They were very attractive to me at the discounts offered, but shipping costs to MN killed the bargain aspect, and my Kymco dealer knocked about $800 off sticker for a new Downtown. More Sym offerings would be great, but I see what they are up against with other top brands at comparable prices and then the improving chinese knockoffs for half price.
