hey you guys...i recently had a cvt problem and got a new belt for it...just as i was almost done fixing it (went to screw on the last bolt onto the front variator) the impact wrench completely shattered the variator. www.scrappydogscooters.com/images/bn-variator-kit.jpgthats the variator, the top right part, is what shattered, the part with those curved lines emanating from the center. i wanted yo know if you guys know anything about impact wrenches and how to use them so that they dont shatter the piece. im going to be buying a new one, and i want it to work. my bike is a zhong 150 cc and it has a gy6 b engine i dont own the impact wrench, and i remember the mechanic asking me how much torque it needed before it broke lol.

thats odd. Thats a good variator. What i usually do is put on the variator then the rod then the belt and then the drive plate, put the washer on and twist the nut on til you cant no more and give it a few hits with the impact gun not pressing the button continueously just do a few short burst and that should be good enough.

I use a impact wrench all the time, never had trouble, maybe your impact wrench got to close to one of the fin on the vaiator fan. I always hand tight the nut first, then use the impact wrench

Same here no problems with electric or air impacts. You just got lucky I guess. Keep it perpendicular to the plane of the nut and washer and it should all be fine...

Yep first tighten the nut with your hand then give it 3 1 second raps with the impact wrench and should be good. Then start it up if every thing looks good give it a few revs up and down to make sure it will not come loose and put the cover back on. Sam
