Got a 1 month old 2012 Taotao ATM150-A Evo 150cc. Less than 250 km (150 mi) on it. I'm getting a single click when applying the front brake at low speed. More of a heavier clunk at higher speed. How do I begin troubleshooting this? Thanks!

Check the brake hardware upfront make sure its all tight. If it is check forks then steering head bearings for play.
Do you feel the clunk in the handlebars or only hear it??

Just got back from a test ride. The problem is intermittent. The clunk occurs after something has reset from riding for a while, and when I hit the front brake there's a clunk. Can't really feel it in the handlebars, although it sounds like it's coming from the upper part of the steering column. It won't make the sound when I hit the front brake repeatedly and pulse it. Just that initial clunk after riding for a while and then hitting the brake. Any ideas?

Put it on the main stand and wiggle the front forks see if you get any play in there I seem to remember the Taos having loose bearings occasionally

I had the same problem - turned out one of the bolts on the brake caliper unit had come out, and it was pivoting on the other. Have you checked to make sure you have 2 bolts holding your caliper unit on?

I'm going to have Rolling Wrench come out and inspect. It's a two man job to remove and reinstall the headlight cowling.

If it's not the brake caliper, then I'll have to have Rolling Wrench come out and inspect. Removal/reinstallation of the headlight cowling is a bear and requires more hands than I've got.

I think you guys are a life saver. Turns out that kluge was right. The top brake caliper bolt was loose and I could turn it with my fingers. Bottom bolt was somewhat snug. Failed to catch this during the PDI (just got the bike a month ago). After torquing down both bolts, no more clunking. I think this was a life saver guys. Really appreciate it. During my test ride, I rode up to the Asian supermarket and bought a couple more small fortune cats (maneki nekos) for my collection. I'm feeling rather lucky at the moment. Thanks again for the help.
