First and foremost, if all you are going to offer is "don't buy it" or "they suck" then don't bother posting please. I want real answers. I want to buy this myscootersandatvs.com/BWS_150CC.php and want to know if anyone has any tips of things to do right off the bat (change hoses, oil, plugs and check valve lashing) also I have heard alot about GY6 swaps on scooters and was wondering if it would be a good idea to just buy the scooter and a GY6 at the same time and ride the scooter and if it has problems just swap the motor. I can do alot of work myself and I enjoy getting my hands dirty. I want to mod the heck out of it and make it something fun and unique, so any info pertaining to anything I have mentioned would be appreciated. Once again posts like "buy a (more expensive brand) instead." or "they arent any good because they are chinese" are a waste of time unless you have specific REASONS you can list as to why it is no good, like maybe helpful tips.

im not
lol
follow that PDI link even if you buy from a dealer it helps you get used to things on your new scoot you might catch a bolt or w/e they didnt
it also shows you how to change oil and gear oil which, you should do alot, in the 1st 500 miles oil is like what $4 a qt?? better to spend that 4-5 times than screw up your engine.
good luck

You should check out the search feature on the site; your questions have been asked 1,000 times, and answered. Sorry, was that negative? Oh, my bad. Ummm, yes, download a PDI checklist for your model of scooter and do everything it says.

hey dont worry about it these supposedly grownups do what ever they want anyways.
a few weeks ago, i posted a thread that was sorta a hot topic i asked these GROWNUPS to just answer yes or no { didnt want it to get out of hand}
what they all do? they threw all their own political opinions in, most dont even answer the question asked, they just type something close to the topic.
and another lol, wait until they all try to 'one upmanship " on who is the smartest thats when it really gets funny
its sorta like high school if your in the 'click' you can do no wrong if your not--well lmsao
if you read any of my posts i dont care what anyone thinks i post what i want when i want.
IFNA YOU DONT LIKE IT...TOUGH
like danno-- i earlier posted something like "how in the F....." now he came right out and said it was vulgar how did he know what i meant by the letter F??? i meant FREAK but lol now theres a ton of posts about vulgar language.

Come on, guys, don't start bashing new members please...
Good question; My advise is, to not change anything right away, but ride on the stock chinese parts for a while. Usually you have to break in the engine; and around ~500 miles start changing things. By then you have a better understanding of how your bike works (if it has the tendency to run lean, or has some belt issues or other stuff...).
In my case, I have had 2 chinese bikes, and needed zero new parts for the first 2k miles; though I expect you to probably need to at least do a belt replacement at around 2k miles, and fuel hose change before 2 years.

Crowley.....it is the luck of the draw...... my Tao 150 came with parts missing and damaged....I still have not received a couple of parts from the dealer...I have it in fairly good shape and fun to drive with some extra work and buying a couple of missing parts. I have installed a 170cc Bbk and no recent problems. I think if I was to buy again I would buy from a dealer that does the Pdi before delivery. NOT FROM FAMILY GO KARTS IN MINNESOTA. what it comes down to if you buy from a dealer that is just a middleman forwarding orders to taotao you will get whatever they throw in the box in China with no recourse but to hassel with the seller to get the missing and damaged parts sent to you. Best luck. Mak

I have found a couple of local dealers that I plan on going to and actually talking to and looking at there merchandise to decide if thats the route I want to go. I have heard some good thing about one of the dealers that I plan to visit so hopefully that will alleviate part of the issue people seem to have. The majority of the bad stuff I have heard is from people that arent happy with having ordered it online.

Seems silly. You already have a prejudiced view of Tao-Tao why think about getting one? Or TWO? The only positive thing I can say is at least you plan on doing the work yourself. The TT dealer in my town charges a lot for parts, and even more for labor. If you cant acquire parts and repairs yourself, it could cost you a lot. I've witnessed a co-worker put HUNDREDS into his Tao, just have it fail weeks later. Part of it may be that he's completely helpless when it comes to mechanical things and tools.

Its kind of like cars in my opinion, you can buy a benz for 120k and still have recalls or a hyundai for 25k and still have recalls. Snit happens, but I think you should read reviews and see if theres any problems known in forums about what ever bike youre getting. I love my Tao Taos but Ive had issues with them, only small and easy to figure out one, Id still recommend one though. I work on scooters and I cant honestly say theres going to be a brand that doesnt have any issues, but as long as you understand that youll be ok.
