Hi, I am 16 and buying my first scooter. I am dead set on a 250cc. I have 1600 or so to spend on one and want to know if this one is any good. I'm in AZ and also want to know if anyone has any tricks for the heat on a scooter. If anyone could reply ASAP, that would be very helpful. The link to the scooter is here. www.powersportsmax.com/product_info.php/cPath/38_95/products_id/616Attachments:

Im here in AZ as well and would say on the hot days I wear a long sleeve shirt, it keeps the heat and sun off my arms (keeps em from burning) other than that have a pair of gloves on hand cause it gets cold in winter when driving a scoot! (Nothing compared to the other states but still...freezing)

Thanks for the two sites. That helps a lot. I just still don't know if this particular scooter is good. Right now I'm on an electric pantera scooter and need a gas. Need to know if this is the one or if I need to keep looking.

Seat looks really worn, and 31,000 miles is quite a lot. Still, does anyone advise against the above mentioned bike, or is it a good quality bike? I really need to know. The more help and advise, the better.

. . . or is it a good quality bike? when it comes to chinese bikes you will noticed a few things. first of all few chinese bikes are as thorough with quality as name brands. second is it seems that the chinese puts all or most of that quality in the places that really matters, the frame and engine. my scoot is this way. the plastics, wiring, fuses, and bulbs seems to be the crappiest on the planet but then again i've pulled some of the highest quality bearings from the engine. the clutch on my bike was made to last 50000 miles. yes, quality is hard to define when it comes to chinese bikes.

If that scoot was closer to me, I'd offer a $1000.00, replace the rollers and belt, check the clutch pads, replace if needed. Maybe remove and clean the carb, replace the final drive oil, and all filters. Will cost about $250.00 if you do the work. At 31,000, it's just getting broken in. Just my $.02.

Yep just broken in. The seat on that other bike will look like that after a year anyway. You can have someone recover it rather inexpensively and still be under what you are looking to spend. With proper care and maintenance that Honda will go 100,000 miles do you think you'll keep it that long??

I found that same off brand Honda, in AZ and it only has 3,000 on it. Think I'll get that, because its a 2012, in my area, and I think it will just be cheaper in the long run. Also, what should I do about having a girl on the back? Just trying to buy one helmet extra that will fit most girls. What size is that do you think?

Medium helmet is best unless you like chicks with big heads...
Be sure to get comfortable with the bike before you put any one on the back...
I wish you the best hope it all works out.

If you can find a Honda in good shape I'd go for it. (but what is an "off brand" Honda?) As to helmet size that depends, are the girls you ride with really smart?

I just ment that it had a like Honda engine, but not exactly a Honda. That's what this model is. Also, how hard is it to replace the gadges on a scooter? They are mainly metric and wanted a US speedometer.

The $69 Silver Ignitor jacket from Leather Up is just fine year round here in semi-tropical Florida even when the roads are hovering at 113 F with 98% humidity. Fall off even standing still wearing just long sleeves and you may learn first hand about the kit they carry to deal with the adheasion of skin to hot road surfaces.
A decent riding jacket protects your elbows, shoulders and spine. A full face helmet and carbon fiber gloves along with over the ankle boots are the minimum for a 250cc bike that weighs almost 400 lbs.
Servicable modular full face helmets are available on sale for $99 and are worth every cent of it.
I will keep forever the vision of a friend who skimped on gear and got bumped off his bike at low speed wearing just street clothes and a 3/4 helmet with a bubble sheild. Broken shoulder, fractured hip, broken ribs, fractured knuckles, chipped elbow, broken jaw, broken ankle, chipped vertabrae and split one of his feet between the toes right up to that broken ankle.
He will never ride again and be fortunate to be able to walk straight.
Ask him and he will tell you "I should have worn better riding gear and real riding boots."

I just ment that it had a like Honda engine, but not exactly a Honda. That's what this model is. sounds like the 244cc. check the variator for the CFmoto logo. it's a fine engine with plenty of power. there are other chinese 244cc engines, some are better than others.

In my tenure as a plant mechanic I sent too many severed toes off from steel toed boot mishaps that would have been easier to deal with sans the steel toe. For riding it is boots made with reinforced ankles that go high enough past the ankle to prevent them from coming off in an accident that will prevent most injuries. Steel toes that flip or crush at the back act just like shears and can cause much worse injuries than you would many times get without them sometimes clipping off the entire front of the boot. Not fun to be the one who has to find, retrieve and conserve the missing part of the boot along with the contents and rush it to the emergency room on the chance they may be able to reattach whats left. Don't know any stats only have personal experience to go on.
