I have just bought a Sunny Scooter 50 ( used) for my son. I have had it hidden at work for about a month. Have taken it for weekly trips to post office just to keep it running. Now I have given it to him it seems to be starving for fuel. What I want to know is is fuel gravity feed? ie if I pull hose off tank side of filter, should it run out freely? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

No. It's a vacuum actuated petcock. Fuel should not flow past the petcock unless there is vacuum on the petcock. It opens when engine vacuum is present (engine running/cranking) Closes when engine stops. If you disconnect the fuel line from the carb and the vacuum line from the intake and suck on the vacuum line like a straw fuel should flow freely from the fuel line as long as you create a vacuum and stop when you stop. Tank mounted unit. The white plastic thing is a strainer that protrudes up into the tank. Frame mounted unit: Intake:

Hey thanks for the pics and the help. Hopefully I can get the fuel problem sorted. It sat at work for about 1 1/2 mnths and then about 3 days before I was due to sneak it home ( birthday surprise ) my workmate noticed a pool of fuel underneath it and it wouldnt start. Petrol had been leaking through the air cleaner. He put a small clamp on fuel line to prevent further leakage and then phoned me. I went in that night and removed clamp and it started and ran ok for about 10 mins before I turned it off. No leaks seemed to appear. Next day it leaked again. so we decided to strip carb and, other than a fuel filter that was put in reverse and the fuel line that was half clamped in the engine casing, we found nothing else wrong. The next day I rode it home , about 10 miles, and it didnt miss a beat. My son rode it for several days and then said it conked out about 1 min after leaving home. My wife used it and said it lost all power and would just idle. She then restarted it and it went as good as gold for rest of excursion. I rode it two days later and had same problem. My son tried to ride it today and it wouldn't even get him out the gate. I had a go at starting it today and it would idle and that about it. I checked fuel level as guage is all over the show and it took nearly 4 liters to fill it. Now it does not seem to want to start at all. Any ideas anyone? Am not going to put it in for service as local dealer seems to be a bit of a rogue who would love nothing better than a customer with not even a clue as to the problem. Cheers
