i did a 2.1 mile ride to take my girlfriend to work and on the way back i hit 61 mph on the gps... i imidiatly slowed down ( its a 50mph road) and was totally confused, i had to try again, yup it hit it! total feet dropped over 2.1 miles( 11088 feet), 85 feet ( that's an average of 130 feet straight to each foot down)
the new engine has made my rear shocks feel tighter ( they are compressed just putting the engine on for some reason) and apparently they have a different gearing in this one ( slower take off but a bit more top end) you truly never know what you will get with an engine.
oh, and this is an engine from pfsnew.com ( partsforscooters.com)

No wind?? Any way it is possible if everything is just right. GPS is not 100% accurate 100% of time either. Who am I to rain on your parade though?

I TRIED TO CUT AND PASTE. didnt do it right at all--lol if mine had a new belt, new sliders, tune it up a bit, OH AND NO FLAT TIRE there's 2 of those 'speed " things they put up at construction sites, within 3/4 mile of me. id go do a speed run or 3 on mine. colder weather always make me run faster. plus im at least 100lbs lighter than most of you ;D

It's entirely possible. It depends on what scooter type you have too as the larger styles like the BMS V9 Evo style are limited by how much drag they impose on the engine. But when I had mine it would reliably get to about 58 mph gps. But that was only after a full PDI, smog removal and installation of a Mikuni fuel pump to prevent fuel starvation at high speeds, common to Chinese scooters with floorboard mounted gas tanks.
The smaller 10" wheeled 150cc scooters could reliably get to about 62 mph, these are the Lance Vintage and Venice style scooters. Their smaller frames were less drag and the engines could push it faster.
Basically if you weren't reaching these speeds reliably it's likely due to poor tuning or running lean due to EPA lean tuning and smog equipment. But as the engine breaks in you should be able to get even better top speeds. I know a few of the scooters that I did simple tune-ups to after they broke in could reliably hit 65 mph. This was only tuneup work and carb rejet, and roller weight changes, nothing fancy either.

Why is it that people doubt the claims of decent top end even for stock? What makes it so impossible for people to believe? I could see if someone tried claiming 75 or 80MPH stock but I don't think it's unreasonable to see 61-65 or in my case 68 with only minor mods.

There are so many variables that come into play. I've had friends tell me their rides won't do 60 then I take a scoot and do 60 or better. It'll go 60 just not with them on it. I'm just 5'8" 135lbs. Most of those I ride with are around 200 plus. Add wind etal and...... No need for a physics lesson. Be Big, AMAC

I hit close to 60 I believe it I wasn't doubting. Add a 15-20 mph headwind though and 50 is the top end though...

My Fuel injected 260 only did 80, normally the 250's, with carbs, do a good 70MPH tops. So you're right on. Try experimenting with fuels, sometimes mid-grade or premium fuel might give you a small performance edge.

Funny, if you believe the cragislist ad I saw the other day, their badly maintained 150 scooter hits 100 easily, haha.

Did you use install the old roller weights in the new engine?

Did you use install the old roller weights in the new engine? No I didn't. I was thinking about the final drive gears but I'm thinking the new set are a better setup

Well don't push it to 60+ all the time or it'll fail. 45-50 mph on a 150 is "comfortable" for long stretches.

While I could hit 65 on my Lance Vintage the wider flat front they have did make it feel like you were hitting a wall when there was a wind gust comming at you. You could almost feel the bike pause for a moment when they hit you. You did have to keep up with the valve adjustments tire pressures and keep that fuel system squeaky clean to get there.

Even on a more aerodynamically based "sport" looking scooter I can barely hit 60 in a wind over 15MPH and anything over 20 MPH (as we often do get on Cape cod) and I won't see much over 55. So to be fair, that's why they call it an average speed and not just top end. With a tail wind, ful out, downhill I can hit 68MPH GPS verified but as mentioned even that is a guess however the speedo needle was closely in agreement so I'll take it at it's word.

I've hit 62 on flat ground and I'm 200 lbs. I've hit 58 going up a hill!
