A friend called out of the blue and gave me his 1994 Harley softail that has only 9000 miles on it.
Pics will be posted when I pick it up this week.

Wow. That's one pretty awesome friend!
I know how you feel. I've been shopping around for a cheap-enough old iPad to use for the Jazz Band I play in. Then my friend emails me, "If you can hold off for a month or less, I'll be getting the new iPad and I can send you my old one." Floored me.
True friendship--not that they give you things, but that they don't think anything of it to give you things.
Enjoy your new ride!

Cool you can sell it and buy at least 2 real bikes What's a real bike?! Aah, the age old question eh? Well here is my opinion ( Official Disclaimer forgive me I have never had much love for them as I have worked on them and had the opportunity to ride lots of motorcycle, the list below will disqualify more than just Harley) Where to start... A real bike has a better power to weight ratio than a family car A real bike has a turning radius that is shorter than that family car A real bike (company) doesn't use an engine that was essentially designed in the 50's (unless it was made in the 50's) A real bike doesn't use suspension designed in the 20's (springer softies...) A real bike with a displacement nearly 1500cc's should be able to climb hills faster than a 400cc scooter A real bike has been tuned for performance not sound A real bike's list of of available performance accessories (factory accessories) is longer than the list of shiny bits and tassles you can add. Unfortunately Harley has decided to design motorcycles for outlaws and not Americans. Harley's bikes can't and don't compete with the rest of the world even when up against other cruisers. Harley's once proud racing credentials are now a distant memory. Its sad to me that they have chosen this route. Even though the list above might be stretching it a bit when you ride them it feels like its all true. When I turn one of the factors I don't want to enter the equation is how hard the bike will scrape. I'm ok with grinding the feelers off the foot pegs but it has to be at excessive speeds in the mountains not around town as I make a left turn. Anyway you asked for it. Also the addition of fuel injection has helped the terribly under-powered poorly designed engines significantly and many are now a little faster than my wife's mini-van
