I have had a couple older 50cc scooters come through the shop with high mileage
The two that come to mind are a 1988 Yamaha Jog (9900 miles) and a 2000 Honda Elite SR (13000 miles!)
I have had several of each of these makes and neither are slow but these two old geezers were stupid fast. Like noticeably quicker AND faster than there siblings.
Anyone else experience this phenomena? All 2 stroke scooters are going to get a little faster after break in but this is like past the expected life span of the machine and they are probably the 2 fastest stock examples (I had to check and make sure they weren't kitted or modified) I have ever seen.

Yeah I know that.
Maybe I misstated my question, has anyone else noticed 2 stroke bikes with absurdly high mileage being faster than the same 2 stroke bike with lower mileage?
And I agree 100% 2 stroke is the only 50cc worth having.

Well initially the engine needs to run or break in. Once that has been done, the rollers also need to adjust (the more they wear, the lighter they get, resulting in faster acceleration).
Usually also after a while you find which fuel and oil works best for you, and equip the bike with it. When it's new, you got to find what works best, and often have not yet optimized everything yet.

I have a bone stock 50cc 2 stroke Minarelli. It now has almost 9000 on the clock. I have installed 3 top ends on it over the years. The original top end ran pretty strong til a gudgeon pin clip popped out. The second top end I installed had smaller transfer ports and it ran like crap. Slow with no torque. I installed a third one from a used engine I pulled off a Venus and it runs like it did when it was new now. The two scoots you say were stupid fast may have had the top ends replaced with the same bore but they had better port mapping than their counterparts. Carb needle setting/jetting is also something that could have been modified.
