Got a brand new 2012 Taotao ATM150-A Evo 150cc scooter. Purchased a giant Bestem trunk to go on the back. OK, it's so big it's goofy (20x16x13"), but I need it for groceries and hey I like pizza. The trunk has a set of LED lights with blue and brown wires. I'd like to wire them into the tail/brake light wiring so that I get both a tail light and brake light from the LEDs. Looking at the tail/brake light wiring on the bike, there are green, green/yellow, and brown wires running from the wire harness. What is possible as far as having the LED lights function both as tail lights and brake lights? How would you go about connecting the wiring? Which colors to which colors? Use 3M quick connects or quick splices? And what is recommended for a quick way to disconnect the trunk wiring from the bike in case I need to take the trunk off? Attachments:

where did you purchase trunk? As im a to an owner of a evo150. as for the color of wires you will have to test it out. i would use bullet connectors with shrink tubing to seal the wire to connector, allowing the bullet to connect and disconnect when needed for removal of trunk.

on the bike green is ground, green/yellow is the brake trigger and brown is running lights.

That's actually not a bad looking trunk for the money, I've seen trunks with a lot less function go for a lot more... Like the standard ones selling for $80 to $100 but anyway... I would think you will want to test the wires independent to see which ones light what, the way I would do it is strip a little off the scooter's wiring and then with the scooter running you want to touch the trunk wires to the exposed pieces to see what lights up. Now according to the below picture and to my understanding you would likely want... The small line of lights near the top to be your brakes, and the longer line that goes around the side to be running lights. Attachments:

Do know that LEDS only accept a voltage one way. So if the leds don't work, with right wiring, try reversing the LED wires.

i installed my own LED lights for both brake and running lights on my trunk. plus i have extra turn signals on trunk. Now no way does mine lock like that pro job, but it does the trick i used just 2 ea red 9 inch LED strips, one going both ways from where you open your trunk. i cut a small hole, at the the inside front of the trunk, Inside the trunk i put bullet connectors, for each light. so i can quick disconnect if i wanna take the trunk off. i than ran the wires thru the hole down {which i plugged with bath & tile gunk-lol} to behind the brake/stop light. Not sure which colors went where, just played with it till i found the correct ones. Spliced 'em in and then soldered those wires and used a bunch of electrical tape to seal it all up, waterproof. it works for us cheap folks, lol not sure u can see in daylight

you have to get a dual element splitter i done this light mod on my scoot i have leds that function as brake lights Thanks millsc. I'm attaching a diagram of what I plan to do. Will this work? Bullet connectors will be housed under the trunk away from water exposure. All wiring from trunk to brake light wiring harness housed in heat shrink tubing. thanks for all the help! Attachments:

Just get a dual element splitter wire the lights to the splitter and wire the spliter to your brake and running light wires takes five minutes

I have a tip, instead of the bullet connectors. I go buy a trailer wiring kit (flat 5 conductor). That way it's easy to remove the truck, you just unplug it and your good to go.

Got this working thanks to millsc and inkyben. Thanks guys. Ignore the diagrams previously posted in this thread. The attached one is the correct diagram that works. After talking to my uncle (electronics expert), I made some corrections to the diagram, which had a short in it. I used the dual element splitter that millsc recommended, and it sort of works. I don't get the intensity that I'd like when I squeeze the brake lever, but the idea is there, the brightness of the LED lights does increase about 5%. Here are the videos documenting this project: youtu.be/VnIRgk-2ZZ4 (Bestem trunk LED wiring - part 1) youtu.be/-tJk23KRD7E (Bestem trunk LED wiring - part 2) Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help.
