This may explain a lot...for those using the Blue performance CDI. Finally got one of the Tech people from my wholesaler to research something. SOME of the blue CDI's they produce have a curve...but nearly all of them have this according to him... Excerpt from an email response I got..regarding the Blue CDI's " Glenn, This is GY6 Racing AC CDI 11,000rpm allowance with constant angle of 28°. Item you ask about have installed progressive curve, however limited number are manufacture for sale in Europe. Other item of GY6 Racing AC CDI for U.S. sale is constant angle 12°. Both 28° and 12° blue CDI units showing picture of curve are not manufacture in such way and they are constant. We know not of any company in China fabricating progressive units that are for sell in U.S." So that means we are advanced at idle...all the way up the rpm range...which explains why many have trouble getting a scoot started once installing a blue CDI...and when they do it runs poorly. Also if the CDI is not 12 degrees...but the 28 degrees...I can see why many have pre ignition problems. So why do they call them progressive is what I want to know... Guess what? Reason I got is they only have one decal for the 'true' progressive ones sold elsewhere...so that decal just gets put on all the ones made. Attachments:

I have a blue finned CDI like that on my 2T from PFS Kevin...my blue finned 2T one works great too. I was talking about the 4T ones most are having problems with. Not sure if the 2T ones are linear or progressive....but I can write and ask. Pretty sure they are progressive as they don't have the same problems as the 4T ones...

No comments...input...ideas? Sometimes I think my posts from research and practical hands on application get ignored? Everybody wanted to know all about cam specs as companies have no clue as to what they are selling and what each cam number does. So I had a buddy a fellow scooter nut that works at a machine shop...measure and get the specs for gy6 cams A-8 through A-14. I published it here and only 4 viewed it. THEN just like the blue CDI post...people ask the same questions about the blue CDI and cam specs...when I already published the info for both here. lol... So I am just gonna read posts here and not comment....reply or post anymore...less frustration that way..

I've never gotten a blue CDI to work reliably. I have several customer returns just sitting there doing nothing. I'm sure those are the PFS ones.

I guess I own a 12 degrees one then. It gives worse low end torque, worse start, but about the same high speed acceleration and top speed. I presume when the speed increases the negative effect of pre-ignition gets reduced. The one I have makes for a good backup CDI, but my stock black CDI works better than the blue one on my Tao ATM50 (4stroke).

my close friend has a atm and a cheap oarnge cdi he got from me..(off ebay) gave him really good accelerationn and top speed actually increased by 4-5mph Now I DO have success with the orange ones for the 4T...and the blue or gold finned ones for the 2T Minarelli's...but the blue finned 4T ones make our scoots hard to crank as if compression is too high(which it isn't)..and they cause them to kickback. Especially if you try to kick start them...you get a good *bump* That don't feel so good if you are only wearing tennis shoes..or any soft sole shoe. Tells me that even at idle/start speed they are already 12 degrees or more advanced...and not progressive in advance....they are linear.

Takeoff was faster for me I tried the "new racing" blue CDI on my 2T Honda, after one ride changed it back to the stock one. My take-off suffered but my very top end was a little better. I was not happy with it.

Glen , I must say you are getting moretech information then most sellers . Yes it is thankless and not noticed . People are only interested when they need the info or are having a problem .
Don't let it get you down , sometimes the tech info will help you make sales . It will help you offer a better product . Understanding the specs of the parts will enable you to provide a more positive outcome in the sales of parts best suited to the customers needs .
HANG IN THERE !!!!!

I, for one, know too little to comment on many of the threads that are the essence of this forum and make it so valuable. I read them and bookmark a bunch, but seldom comment. When I do, I'm often insecure about doing so, wondering if I'm making it needlessly voluminous. Last week, I dropped by the Italika service center down the road. I hadn't been there in a very long time in spite of the fact that I had adhered religiously to their one-year maintenance program. I got to talking to Moisés, the young Italika-certified head mechanic there, about some of my planned mods and maintenance practices. It quickly became clear that he was having difficulty keeping up with me, but I'm pretty confident that I wasn't talking out my - er ... that what I was saying was accurate, but that it was over his head. He's US educated, so he was very interested in this forum and any other knowledge I might be willing to share with him. I joined in October and I think I've made a great deal of progress, so when a "thank you" thread appears, I post with threads like this one in mind. Thanks, carasdad.
