Maybe there's a leak in the air intake, and water entered in, or the air-filter scooped up too much water? Sounds like the most plausible problem.

after I left it started to drizzle a bit but when I got much closer to the k mart it started to rain actually so perhaps it was the air filter bringing in to much water

i had a issue with riding in the rain actually a down power. Water had enter my has tank through through my cap, the rubber seal was dry rotted and cause my scooter to run poorly and shut down.

Something similar happened to me once when i lived in Jacksonville. I was at the supermarket at night and when i came out my battery was dead. Kick start would not work so i started to push it home about 2 miles away. Leaving the parking lot this guy came up to me and asked what happened. He quickly opened his hood and took out his jumper cables and jumped my scooter for me. So thankful!

Scooters have little protection from the elements like when it rains, once the electronics get wet it's not much doing but wait for it to dry out, don't leave it in the rain is the best solution I have found.

I do have to disagree here; see my post in tips and tricks about CorrosionX. I soaked my scooter in the rain after treatment, but that didn't satisfy me, so I came home and took the garden hose to it, soaking the electronics, cables, accessory connections, a Samsung Fascinate phone and a heated coffee mug I had treated. The whole video was shot on the soaked phone.

I constantly ride my scooter hard in the rain. go through puddles and all. no issues. My scooter slept outside for almost two years in the rain with no issues.

I've had similar issues with other bikes. I've traced it often times to the coil. Sometimes you get crack in the spark plug boot or even the boot isn't securely attached to the wire and water can cause the spark to ground out or even the wire is sparking to the frame where the coil is bolted. Try buying a new coil, and treating the contact areas on the plug and the coil with dielectric grease.

On most scooters the spark plug is hidden beneath some tupperware. My scooter is outside 24/7 for 6 months now, and no issues of the kind neither.
