I've a quick electrical question which has probably been answered somewhere but I'll ask it while I search more anyway lol. 2007 150cc sunL adventure Would a bad headlight or brights switch be a cause for a parasitic drain and my lights to keep blowing? I have taken the harness apart (and re wrapped) and found no damage in the wiring itself. I'm in need of help cause this is my only transport and school starts the 14th

the thing im the WORSE at is electrical probs. but do you have a multimeter?
start checking all your wires like i said im stupid, but it sounds like you are getting power surges, which would be the regualtor.

By pass the switch and find out. Let me know if you need to know how...

Ok so I disconnected the headlight switch and the low/hi beam switch from the harness and the battery still died as if it has a lull from somewhere... I'm at a loss as electrical is my kryptonite too lol. I have put a new stator and regulator on as well as new engine (different story) and I still have this issue of bulbs always on/blowing out/not turning on etc. Where should I begin now? Any help is immensely helpful.

Don't know what to tell you but I keep mine plugged into the charger, pretty much anytime I'm not riding it.

Don't know what to tell you but I keep mine plugged into the charger, pretty much anytime I'm not riding it. Keeping the battery alive is one thing but that doesn't solve his overall issue, I'm almost inclined to believe that the current and charging system are miswired off the stator. especially if he went from 6 pole to 11 it's easy to miss on something. What that is exactly I couldn't say without being there to test it but it seems like that's the case

blowing headlights is often an indicator that the r/r is not working to regulate the voltage and allowing too high a voltage on the bulbs. this can be checked by measuring the dc volts@ the batt while it is running because it affects the dc output and will also over charge the battery causing it to go bad quickly. anything over 15v indicates a bad r/r. under voltage , less than 12 can be a bad r/r on the rectifying side or bad stator.

as far as a drain, if you have a factory alarm/remote start i have seen on here many problems with them though no personal experience. with the scoot off pull one of the batt leads. with a multimeter attached in series (set to dc amps) you will be able to tell how much drain is happening. alternately you can check it in the dark by slowly touching and removing a lead to see if you get a spark. once you determine you do have a short of some kind you need to be patient and systematically disconnect things one at a time until no more spark or current. this could be cause by a bad r/r also as it's directly hooked to the battery and if it's shorted inside may be causing all your probs.

Awesome advice everyone, thank you!!! I have it running and am headed to the parts place today. I'm thinking my main headlight switch and r/r are bad? I recently upgraded my stator from 6 pole to 8 pole and maybe it was that, I dunno. It was weird my head lights/tail lights, and gauge cluster went out (speedometer aside) but my flashers and brake light didn't. Then all of them went out after a while and now keep blowing lol dyoung1167 that is a great idea thank you for that I will test that for sure to pinpoint my problem.
